Ha ha ha - Sorry for my bad english - I should’ve clarified that I broke the variators loose from the camshafts. One could easily misinterpret what I mean...

Yes, they were still in working order.

Dang this is intense. So with a cam locking tool that seems pretty safe, but what about the tensioner. You need to set it, no? I had a tech check the crank end play on my Miata back when I was worried about the thrust bearing failures. Mine was fine. He bought a new dial indicator and everything to check it. That was years ago and the shop has lost my confidence since then. They choked on my boost harness shorts in the injector wires and washed cylinder causing misfires. They told me I needed a new engine. I checked the compression and then the harness. WRONG. Then I emailed the engineer who designed the boost kit. Included pics of the worn shorts. 6 hours later he emailed me back confirming I found the short. Green with gray stripe, main injector for no.2 cylinder. Patched it up and armored it. Done. Been driving it ever since. And to work today to avoid cooking the Giulia in this extreme heat. The Baby Beast has a new cover too so it's protected in the lot. ;)

Found this real cool tool at HF, a soda blaster. Like sand blasting but it can't remove any metal, it's environment friendly and works slick as snot!
It uses baking soda. Here are some before and after parts.

I HATE that ! Extra electrical connectors after the work is done.
Sometimes manufacturers will use a standard wiring loom for all models and some connectors dont get used on different options.
    Makes one extremely paranoind.
Is there another Scud in your area you can examine ?

I thought of doing the yellow to the intake cover...does it still have the wrinkle finish or is it smooth? Any more pics to share, looks cool.

Did you sort the motor in the end or send away?

Enjoy what’s left of the driving season. Well done!

I sent the head to a specialist machine shop that has tons of experience with Ferrari motors, lucky for me they are only 80 miles away. I had local guy put the head on set timing with new variators. I did all the rest.
