Hey guys, Who would happen to know the differences between a Challenge F355 bumper, and the regular item? I know for one that the former is made of Kevlar, while the latter is constructed from some kind of GRP Composite and is much heavier, what what other differences are there between them? Much appreciated, thanks!
Smaller reinforcement bar. Larger brake ducting. The factory brake ducting won't work without modification. Challenge bumper is designed to work with challenge brake ducting.
What about the foglights, will those fit the Challenge bumper, as I see the Challenge has foglight cutouts but doesn't run any...
My 98 challenge bumper has only one ex-fog light cut out (left sude) which feeds the extra oil cooler behind the bumper. I think the factory supplied them with one hole on each side but a lot of teams closed the right one for better aerodynamics.
One more thing I forgot to ask, how much lighter is the Challenge bumper than the regular item? Thanks!
Intmd8. Posted his numbers i believe it was over 20 pounds lighter, no crash protection either. Do a search and shosuld find it.
Intmd8 has replica challenge bumpers in carbon on his car. Not the same thing as the original challenge bumpers but lighter. If I recall correctly something like 12 lbs.
My car is Canadian which came with heavier 5mph bumpers. US cars got 2.5mph bumpers I believe which -should- be lighter. Anyway the weights for my car are- Front bumper- Original- 53lbs Carbon- 10lbs Rear bumper- Original- 45lbs Carbon- 6lbs I think the original Challenge carbon/kevlar bumpers were about 2x the weight of the carbon ones I'm using.
The challenge bumpers are right around 20 lbs each front and rear. Both front and rear have a built-in crash bar that is noticeably smaller than the the standard bumpers
I found a rear Challenge bumper here in Switzerland, but 2000$ for a broken part, isn't it a bit expensive? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
These are getting very rare to find and prices are moving up accordingly however 2000$ for a broken bumper is too much imo. If you can get the repair cost estimate and see from there. In unmolested condition these fetch 3000$ but many of the used ones out there will be cracked and repaired, after all they are used race parts so it's expected but sellers may not disclose this. If you really need it for a restoration or something I'd suggest negotiating the price and take it since they're not an item that comes up for sale much... In the last few years I've seen maybe two come up. At this point it's the rarity of these items that is appealing.
Mine is also a Ccar, where dd you get your bumpers if I may ask? or does anyone have a place to look for them? Thanks!
I would have to check, I think it was about 4500 for the pair if I remember correctly. He makes all of the underbody panels for challenge cars and also the front hood and engine cover.
Did you put the support bar on your carbon bumpers? I'm thinking of getting the carbon ones also but wondering apple's to apple's comparison whether it's just the bumper itself that has that weight difference of if you're comparing the two installed with all the attachments or not.
