Does anyone have any verifiable information about any 3500 GT coupe that took part in any race, rallye, hillclimb, time trial, etc. in the 1950s or 1960s. It seems that someone would have done at least one event with a car given the race-derived engine, alloy bodywork and the relatively large numbers produced.

For what it's worth,...I have a set of DCOE 12's that were used on a 3500GT "Maximum Horsepower Output" engine specification from the factory.

Hi 3500GT I am looking for some information on a 3500GT engine, and I see from your posts that you have some records. I wonder if you might be able to help me to track the car number from the numero interno of the engine? Any help you can offer is appreciated.

The Maserati factory has the records that will let you track the car number from the internal engine. Contact Fabio Collina at the Maserati Factory and he will give you the information

I doubt that very much that the Fabio can track the engine via the internal engine number. What you need is the VIN of your car and Fabio can give you the internal engine number of the original (!) engine. The other way around is not possible in partcular
    - when the car had got a non-matching-no. engine
    and/or
    - when there is only an engine (that probably has NO official engine number that is matching the VIN of the car).
So the question should be: has the engine you have an official (!) engine-number or not?

Please note: engine- and internal-engine-number are two different cup of coffee!

Yes, I know. The engine I am talking about has no external, official Engine Number stamping but is it marked internally with the Numero Interno on the components. I know that many of the cars did not originally have external number stamps on their engines

Ok, but what is the internal number then?

Checked all my 3500GT-, 3500GT Spyder Vignale-, Mistral- and Sebring files for that int. engine-no.
    Unfortunately...no luck! Sorry.

What I can confirm is VIN AM101.750 was fitted with engine internal number 440, so assume your engine would be close to that chassis number. However they can vary considerably so not an exact science.

Walter, do any of your records show such a low numero interno in any of the later cars that you mentioned above? This engine is an early external oiling engine but my suspicion is that it may have been delivered with a much later car and I am wondering if this makes sense?

No, sorry, does not make sense. Numero interno 424 must have come with an earlier car. All early (!) 3500GT and 3500GT-Vignale had a 3-digit number, Mistral and Sebring had 4-digits (as far as I know).

I'd agree with AM101 that the chassis was probably numbered in the 700's. Here are some other pairings of numbers that I know of - which prove the point that although there is a rough correlation as the chassis and internal numbers increase, there is no systematic connection: 735 and 335; 742 and 329; 750 and 440; 904 and 455; 940 and 425 (Chassis number followed by internal engine number)
