What was Correa doing over in that lane?

avoiding other slow moving cars to his left. Hubert bouncing back directly in front of him was just awful luck. I don’t point a finger at Correa for anything and I don’t think many others would either.

Yes, but he was the only car in the queue to do that. Of course you cannot blame Correa for a split second decision that probably seemed to be the safest way around. But for some reason he decided to go off track, and that's what caused the fatal part of the accident

it’s paved runoff. drivers use it all the time to avoid spinning cars, go watch a WEC or GT3 race at Spa. happens multiple times a race.

While not placing blame on Correa, he certainly did not seem to heed the yellow flags that were waiving and he paid a heavy price to both himself and Hubert. I am not sure the crash was survivable for Hubert even if he had. Hubert had hit the tires pretty hard already, with massive deceleration, bounced out and was then t-boned at high speed by Correa. He would likely have survived the first hit, but not the second, even from a slowing car. From the replay, it looks as though Correa kept his foot in it and jinked right into the runoff to avoid the spun car on the left (Alesi). A split second decision, no doubt, but he had to have seen the car spin out of the right hand portion of Eau Rouge and the tire smoke.......this is an immediate yellow. That means slow down and control your car and it would seem that he felt he could power through on the runoff which was unfortunately the scene of the second crashing car (Hubert). It seems Boschung was the only one to back off and Hubert tagged him in the runoff, which touched off the whole chain of events.....

Fair warning....there are some hard crashes in the video below......

Crash debris also seemed to have caused Correa to have a compromised car by the time he hits Hubert......

That sentence at the end of the video is one of the most beautiful and meaningful I have ever read..RIP Anthoine.

By the way his funeral tool place Tuesday and Chartres cathedral was jam packed, among the many racing notables present were Alain Prost who really saw him as a major talent very much in his own deep thinker mold, our new star Charles Leclerc, friend Pierre Gasly, FIA President Jean Todt and many more...
