Monaco was an Italian principality attached to the Republic of Genoa, but the Grimaldis were allowed to run it in full autonomy.
The region around it used to be Italian too, the County of Nice and part of the now French Alps belonged to the House of Savoia (Milan).
All that changed during the Napoleonic Wars, and the Unification of Italy in the 19th century.
Monaco was detached of Italy, to be recognised as an independent country later.
The French annexed the County of Nice, and the Savoia part on the Ouest of the Alps.

There are 2 official languages in Monaco, French and Monegasque, an Italian dialect relatively little spoken now.
Monaco has always had a difficult Relationship with the French state, mostly in terms of customs, taxes, banking regulations, gambling, etc ...
Several times France threatened to annex Monaco, or terminate its privilèges in the 50s and 60s.
Prince Rainier had to fend off unwelcome pressure from De Gaulle, and asked the US to intervene to stop the harassment (he was married to an US Citizen).

As a French i can tell you he looks absolutely French.
To be honest , if he was a mediocre driver i would say he is a pure monégasque !

That's a bit stupid, isn't it? Drivers can see the flag, they don't need that someone from FIA asks somebody in the pit to tell the driver that a flag is being waved.

So much bureacraucy in a situation that is supposed to be dangerous.

Exactly, De Gaulle was very close to send the troops.
Not sure about the US stopping the harassment.

If Leclerc becomes very successful, I wouldn't be surprised if the French started claiming him as one of their own.
They so desperate to show off a good driver after Grosjean and Gasly !!!

You have a point. How the FIA can think this was "good for fans", they must be nuts.

Kennedy visited France in the early 60s, and had a word with De Gaulle.
    Things improved after that.

So what’s the ruling on Vettel for his going wide on the last turn during Q3?

Not much came out of the stewards investigations so far, or maybe I missed something.

    No, not really:

"The Italian Grand Prix stewards have reprimanded three drivers for their role in the farcical end to Monza qualifying and urged the FIA to "expedite a solution" for such situations.

Nico Hulkenberg, Carlos Sainz Jr and Lance Stroll have all been handed reprimands for driving unnecessarily slowly ahead of the final runs in qualifying."

Exactly. Don't point finger at the real perpetrators as identified by the FIA but feign being the victim and point instead at your most direct opponents, like he did in Montreal, where he tried to walk it back after he was embarrassed by the jeers.

You wanna try to like the guy but he's a real little weasel.

What happened in the last 2 minutes of today's qualifying, is a disgrace to the sport. The only real solution to this is disqualifying, all 10 of them.
Even Sainz and Leclerc, who got past the red light in time, should be penalised, they, just like the 8 other drivers, drove too slow. They should, all 10, be kicked out of the Monza circuit for the rest of the weekend.
They were anti-sports. That needs a good lesson. 10 idiots looking for a slipstream that no other idiot was going to give them. They preferred to be late and not better their lap times.
And the teams that were looking at it like blind morons, incredible.
F1, what a decadent , ridiculous, monkey business it has become. "May the best win", ever heard about that, you f.cking FIA?
