Tend to agree. Looked like it was filmed in a simulator to me.

On a more positive note, the car seemed firmly planted and did not bounce around.

Remember this is the Non-Z51 version: no Magnaride and no wings or splitters. The Z51 tops out at 186 mph because of the drag of the wing.

And notice that it gets to top speed in 6th, not 8th -- just as I guessed!

So last two gears are purely for fuel economy. We never really needed more than 6 gears.

The engine doesn't have the torque to go faster than 6th will allow. The 7th and 8th speed are for EPA tests and fuel economy. The Ford version of this gearbox has 7 speeds. For some reason Chevy needs eight.

The C8 (6 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the C7) is not "a small car". In fact its 2 feet longer than the Alfa 4c and about 800 lbs heavier

But is has over double the HP, much more torque at the bottom end, a 1.5 sec 0-60 advantage, and 40+ mph over top speed.

There is no substitution for cubic inches...

Because MORE gears are better....:)

The C6 top speed was in 5th gear (6th was too tall). C7 top speed was in 5th gear (6th and 7th were too tall). And now, the C8 top speed is in 6th gear (7th and 8th are too tall)

Anybody have any idea what the fuel economy is in 7th and 8th gears, assuming one is using them constantly on the interstate for about 3-4 hours at a time?

Best guess (based on my C7 convertible) will be 28-30MPG and possibly a touch higher depending obviously on speed limit. Highway mileage in the last 3 generations of Corvettes has been almost miraculous based on the performance envelope....(can you imagine a 1967 Corvette getting 31.1 MPG at 72 MPH average????)

Charlotte to Raleigh, in "ECO" mode in 7th gear (7 speed manual)

Interesting view of the Convertible. The roof seems to slope to the rear more than F cars do. Might be an optical illusion but its rather nice looking.

My C5Z06 racecar is orange. My 1st C8 pick was Orange but the color just did not look go to me in the C8. Then I went to the light Blue. That is a stunning color but maybe a little too attention getting especially when stupid people think the mid-engine C8 is about GM trying to look like a Ferrari. So, I ordered it in the old man understated all business bronze metallic. I think this way I can just enjoy the C8 as the GM super reliable but Ferrari performance anywhere and no one will give the car a second look. FWIW only Vette people realize how great plastic cars are in the sense that the plastic can take a good hit and just pop back out. You can get paint scratches but never a door ding or dent. I think the bronze will be an amazing color to live with. My first Ferrari was a 78 308 GTS in Marrone-Dino, a 60's Ferrari bronze metallic color. I actually sought out my 2011 ford f150 King Ranch in golden bronze metallic because its a cool color in person and easy to live with.

Too hot here for black cars and I dislike red cars. Blue would be my next choice as well.
