Maranello hit this one out of the park, not sure how you could ever mess up a V12 open top experience but this design is really nice to go with it! They will sell each and every single one of these..

The 812 has always had a deficit of elegance especially when compared to the F12. This 812 GTS on paper when the top is down looks alright maybe better than the coupe because it got rid of one of the many unnecessary scoops however when the top is up seems to look worse than the coupe. I feel this design would be fantastic for a Viper but doesn’t befit a Ferrari.

Interesting because on the video it looks like 9000...but hey...what's a 100rpm!? :)

I just wrote what they show us yesterday at the car introduction: in a slide show there was written "8900 RPM" as revs limit. I agree with you that they are a lot… :)

We weren't allowed to take pictures.

    ciao

Crinoid, agree 100% with you. I saw the car last week and thought the same thing. Car look great top down but up it loses the smooth roof line to the back of the car. There is just a lot of "flat" metal in the back. They mentioned at the preview they used the same roof as the 488 and F8. That is pretty clear as opposed to starting from scratch. Will be keeping my 812 Coupe.

The top opening mechanism seems kinda shoe horned into the car which forces an aesthetic without being able to really design something specifically for the car.

Could not agree more. Saw the car last week. They said they used the 488 roof for the 812 GTS and it shows. Too much metal after the glass window. I agree the coupe looks much better and will keep my coup and enjoy the open top of the Portofino.

Red is so bad I am surprised that Ferrari even showed it in this color. Shades of grey/silver are likely best, maybe some blues (like Mirabeau)....

The last few seconds of the video indicate it is a 'fictional situation', and the majority of the engine noise is interlaced with a lot of music except at the very end, and there is no correlation of the engine sound while driving, in other words, I believe the engine sound to be of an 812, but not that 812GTS... I think we will have to wait until some 'first drive' videos occur sometime next spring...after all, Ferrari intentionally prevented the audience from hearing the 812GTS during its reveal...that is a very substantial 'reveal' itself...again, we'll need to wait for an 812GTS review/in the wild videos...(to understand the GPF impact on sound, for those that care)

here are 2 more pics from the video that I found interesting:

Surprised at how closely the top up profile matches my 812 coupe.
    Welcome and unexpected.

Maybe however it’s the same mechanism as the 488 so it’s no less a spider than the 488 / F8.

Despite the fact that i'm not a big fan of the 812, i have to admit that the 812 GTS is so beautiful. I would say, stunning!

Ok, well with the roof up it looks like a much less elegant design. The carry over from the 488 mechanism shows in that the roof line is screwed up.

The Grigio GTS paint really changes color in an extreme way depending on the light!

I think the darker release color was specifically chosen to help influence the appearance, as the new lines/blacked out quarter panel, etc, blend better with a low contrast. Definitely looks like darker shades(any with low contrast to the new dark/black lines) will help better present the 812GTS in light of these elements.

I just had this same exact conversation with a friend, too many cars all at once. I remember back in the 1980's how incredible it was to have the 288 GTO and Testarossa at the same time, with the Porsche 930 Turbo and Lamborghini Countach QV how lucky we were. Now it is just too much.

I think there is, kind of, the last front engineed V12 open topped car with a folding roof was a Ferrari 365 GTS/4 [ Daytona Spyder] There was also a 330 GTS and a 275 GTS

The 550 Barchetta had a tent with sticks in the trunk as a roof if you could call it a roof.

The 575 super America had a one piece fold over glass roof
so you can see where the GTS came from

It's a first for me of actually thinking of going with a grey colour on a Ferrar; let alone this one!
This Grigio is increedible indeed. I thought on initial pictures it was a bit matte, but in the video it looks a bit like liquid silver.
Seems to change with different lighting.
