Hello Ladies and Gents, My 1980 308 has a weak alternator it is out and will be repaired. However, there seems to be an issue with these Bosch units and the cost of replacing them. It seems to me that there must be an alternative unit that can be used. For example I have a Triumph TR3 with a antique large heavy low output generator. It has been replaced with General Motors model CS130 alternator. MY two Triumph TR8's use the same unit. I think my 1987 Jaguar XJ-6 has again the same unit. Please no Lucas jokes here. It just seems like something else may be fitted. Has anyone been down this path? Safe motoring Thanks John
They are not hard to rebuild-- check out my blog "derek's 308..." Parts are cheap and available. I have a couple of 65amp Bosch copies on ebay and may know someone coming stateside who can bring one but they are £165 so much cheaper to rebuild. If your power is down but still some charging then the brushes may be finished and only connecting intermittently (very easy and cheap to fix) or one of your diodes may be out (only $5 but change the brushes and bearing while in there.) If you can't find the parts send me a PM and I'll send you what you need.
