As a new V8 Ferrari owner (2001 360), I am curious about the oil usage of the engine. I haven't owned my car long enough to make any judgements but I suspect it's going to be somewhere around a quart every 500 miles. So please let me know what you've seen for oil consumption.

I probably drive about 2,000 miles (max) between yearly oil changes. I check the oil maybe once a month. I have never noticed any level reduction.

My '92 348, with less than 28k miles, uses less than what the manual says - 1 to 2 quarts per 600 miles.

I get my Modena serviced every year/5000 miles, and have never had to top up the oil. My AMG required a quart every 3000 miles or so...

My 328 doesnt use any oil, I change it every 3000 miles I would think any newer model Ferrari that uses a quart every 500 miles has a problem. I know that in some cases synthetic oil gets burned up in some engines, but a quart every 5-600 miles , thats a problem, especially knowing that most Ferraris wont be driven with any kind of rigor .

I am a 360 owner in the memphis area as well. PM me your number if you have any Ferrari questions. As far as oil consumption, I haven’t seen any on my car even up to 3,000 miles of driving.

Why would you suspect oil usage? Break it in properly and you should be fine and see little to none. You may use a few ounces over the first few thousand miles but not once rings are well seated. Excess oil consumption is a sign of a problem. There are 40 causes. 38 are mechanical while 2 are oil related. Cars aren’t designed to consume the quantities of oil these days, which you seem to expect. What is acceptable by manufacturers is an entirely different thing. That is merely a legal out for them to not have to look into the cause of the excess consumption.

Expect to burn about 1/2 liter every 5k or so. Change the oil every 8k. Anything more is overkill.

I drive my 430 Spider when I feel like it usually on the weekends. I have never had to add oil between my yearly services now going back over six years. Wonderful Automobile probably my favorite out of nine high performance vehicles.

Driven my 360 about 5000 miles this year and it has consumed about 0,5quarts.
I drive it hard but I don’t abuse it.

I don't notice any oil consumption with mine. I know it's a stupid comment.. but make sure you're checking it running with engine at normal operating temps as it is a dry sump engine.

I purchased my 1999 355 F1 Spider in February 2015 (4th owner). I drive +- 2000 miles a year. Just over 52,000 miles on the clock now. I check the oil about once a month and so far have not had to add oil between services.

I took a long trip in my 95 F355B, and before starting the trip I filled the oil to about 3/4 on the dip-stick. After 600 miles (the first day) I checked the stick and found the car had consumed about 1/4 quart. After the second day, the car had consumed nothing, nothing the third day, nothing the 4th day.

The only thing I can surmise is that when the oil reservoir is above 1/2 way on the dipstick, somehow the engine sucks oil out of the reservoir and when the oil is below 1/2 way; the engine can no longer suck the oil out.

This is on a F355B with 70K miles on the motor.

My 2 308s would use a quart or less between changes, about 2000 miles each year. IIRC this was due to the piston/ring design. My 348SS, 355CH with 6000 race miles on it, 512TR and my 458 did/do not use any between changes, anywhere from 2000 to 3000 miles/yr depending on the car. Have always used Redline brand oil, 5-40w or 10-40w depending on the engine.
