.
Kubica and Grosjean are no brainers. Third was harder to decide, for me a coin toss between Gasly and the Hulk.
Kubica who has absolutely no place in F1. Kvyat has made no progress over the years. How did he get a seat at Red Bull in the past ? . Giovinazzi, I can't believe he is from the Ferrari Academy !
Kubica, Grosjean, and Stroll. I definitely think Stroll has driven better this season but he's still being destroyed in qualifying by his team mate.
Everybody is biased on this forum ! It's not that I like particularly Stroll, but I hate the Stroll-bashing.
Were I to be able to cull out the field..... The first to go would be Kubica. I really like the guy, and really like that Williams was willing to give him one last shot at making a go of it. The next would be Grosjean. He has never shown me anything. He doesn't race well and his willingness to take out his teammate would have had me letting him go years earlier. And then Stroll. Not because his daddy bought his seat, and then a team to drive for. How he got there is moot. He's another one that doesn't show me anything. I know he's stood on the podium, but in my opinion that was not earned. Not sure about any of the others in the poll as I just don't follow them that closely.... well except Vettel and Bottas.... and they deserve their seats.
I gave Kubica a break based on the Williams and his past history. I went with the three G's: Gasly, Grosjean and Gio. All three have been put in their place by their respective teammates.
To be fair to Kubica he hasn't made many mistakes, doesn’t have any penalty points and produced 100% of his team’s points. For all we know could just be that his teammate is really really unbelievably fast.
Worse in absolute terms or in a expectations/reality comparison? Because despite they suck, I didn't expect a lot from Kubica/Williams. Also I'd give some slack to the young dudes like Albon or Giovinazzi and to those whose job is just to get the car to the line like Bottas or Kvyat. In perspective, we could argue that Vettel has been worse than those, despite his results.
Kubica, Grosjean, Stroll. Disappointed Grosjean kept his seat instead of making way for Hulk but Haas had their reasons.
Kubica is the slowest but not the worst. He doesn't have much to work with and he should have at least once beaten his team mate but I think he has given his all and it just isn't good enough. And he made no excuses when he announced leaving the team. The two who leave me flat are both Haas drivers. I don't know how the team can even evaluate their design upgrades with these two in the drivers seats. It is their inconsistency and overall egos that make them useless in my opinion. As for the third, I'd rate Kimi for that award. I'm looking for people who are really trying to get something out of their cars. Stroll might be a dork but I honestly think he tries to go fast. Same with Gio and Hulk and the Torro Rosso drivers. The only one who consistently appears (to me) to be just driving around the track and collecting his check, is Kimi. For me he is a man with zero future once this job goes away.
Kimi still has speed given the right circumstances. Those circumstances are usually having a superior car. But seriously folks . . . . . , he's still just so likable in all his "Kiminess".
Spot on ! I don't remember Kimi being really motivated since he left McLaren. But Kimi is a likeable chap all the same.
If the OP was going to put Vettel, a quad WDC, on the list... He should've put every driver on the list. That said... Kubica, Grosjean, and Kvyat.
Look,... I don't honestly believe Hamilton should be on the list,... or Mad Max. But neither should Vettel. Bottom 3?? Absurd. If you are going to include Vettel,... then you should also include the biggest whiner on the grid.
Bollocks, he is destroying his teammate. If anything this season has given me a greater appreciation of Kimi as a talent and seasoned driver. I would love to see Kimi and Hulk as teammates.
You would expect that with all his experience, and Giovinazzi is hardly the sharpest tool in the shed, isn't he ?
I'm not evaluating only skill: I am evaluating the driver as skill + posture + contribution to the team. Grosjean is really poor in racecraft, doesn't seems to develop the car and is whining all the time. Kubica is definitely not the same driver 2006-10 guy, but still arrogant in every interview, and I expected more leadership from him. Stroll can be "fastish" if the planets align, doesn't have a clue of what's happening in the car, and complain more than it should...
Grosjean, stroll and, sadly, Kubica. But not for his skill level...just his injuries are sure as hell not helping.
