I was offered a really great deal for me to me to trade my 2015 458 spider for a 2017 F12. As with all things, when something sounds too good to be true it often is but I can't figure out the catch. Is there a reason to do this or not do this? I trust my F dealer and have a great relationship with them. The question is will the F12 values sink and the 458 values continue to rise? I spoke to my F dealer and they told me they can't keep enough 458s with good specs in stock. They have a waitlist for every 458 that is coming in. A part of me just wants to hang on to the 458 and pick up an F12 or 812 when the prices drop a bit more. Thanks for your opinions! Also posting this in the F12 section... Thanks.

Hang on to the 458 and pick up an F12 or 812 later when the prices drop a bit more. You just gave yourself the best piece of advice.

Keep the 458. Don’t trade it. Just add to it. You will regret selling it. The 458 is becoming the Ferrari to have these days. The dealerships can’t get enough of them to satisfy demand so just think carefully before you let it go.

A 458 Italia or spider is not going to be some investment or collector car. They built 20,00of them.

It will hold value better than than an F12 or 812 but it’s not going to be a money maker.

Also, the dealer is doing the Trade in tactic. They say that a car you have is in huge demand so you feel that you are getting a good price when you sell it to them. Then you buy their F12 (which is a hard car to move atm) and they make a small buck there but free up a ton of cash.

A young man was looking at my 458 spider and said, my uncle has an 812 superfast.

I said it has the engine in the wrong place.

He said, yeah l like your car better.

The only car l would consider trading for is an 812 spider.

Well to begin with which car do you prefer driving? I mean values aside, at some point that has to matter.

The F12 hasn't found its bottom yet, and its replacement model is a NA improvement upon it, so the F12 isn't the last of anything to help mitigate its devaluation. It's going to go the way of the FF and will be an insane amount of car awesomeness for the money in a year or so, a lot more so than right now. The 458 (assuming economic conditions are a constant) likely has found its bottom or is almost there ... so if you're going to replace the latter with the former, do it because you're upgrading the experience and are willing to pay a little more for the added happiness. So if driving it makes you happier and you can afford it, don't wait to try and time the market. The scarcest resource is time, not money.

This from Eilig. I drove a friends F12 and it is a wonderful car. But, the 458 Spider is a great top down experience and I'm keeping mine and in the future I hope to add either an F12 or 812. Best of both worlds.....a mid engine V8 and a V12. Perfection.

Let me clear the air, your dealer wants to take your desirable car and swap it for a car it can't sell.

Let that sink in and you'll have the answer.

F12 becomes an attractive choice once prime examples drop below $200k but I worry it wont be as playful and fun as my 458 Spider, 580-2 or even 991 GT3. I like light, small, tossable cars and the F12 speaks to a different ethos. My beach car is a 19 Countryman S for these same reasons.

I would keep the 458 and pass on the F12. To me the 458 is a great driving car with enough modern technology to be one of the most entertaining cars to drive. It truly depends on your personal preference, but for me I’ll take the 458 every time.

I just checked Autotrader and there are 98 458 Spiders for sale in the US. There are many available and prices will continue to drop. Unfortunately F12s are plentiful as well and those will drop even faster.

As stated above pick the one you enjoy driving the most. I had both the 458 and 488 Spiders and loved them both. I am ready for something different and would get the 812 GTS if I qualified.

Don't know how miles the OP's car has, but there are only about 7 or 8 2015s with less than 5k miles.

I see you have a Cali T. I would trade that in for an F12 and have the best combo there is. 458/F12.
