So, I have owned this car from new and never had any real driving issues. Only about 5,500 miles on it. This year the FI started not going into gear. A full check was done (clutch = 82% remaining, new fluids and even R&R the head gaskets, some issue with compression). Got the car back and it was dropping gears until it just would not go into gear at all. I have been advised that it is the F1 ecu module. The issue is that the car has been in the shop since June and no end in sight. It appears that the module is not in stock and.......?? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
My first question is why did it need head gaskets. Second would be how did the car drive before you brought it in for service. Third would be why it only has 5k miles on it. You do these cars zero favors by not driving them. They turn into very expensive paper weights before you know it
Thank you for replying. The car would backfire sometimes and would not, either shift or go into gear from a stop. The headgaskets were replaced and the car ran crisp and smooth. On downshifting it started defaulting to Neutral and then it would not go into gear again. Stopped driving it and its been in the shop since. Had a daily driver Maranello which saw the miles and have other cars. (not as nice)
Part number 218783. Try Maranello Classic Parts in the UK and see if they have one or can get one. Hopefully they are sure that is the problem. Not much issue with 575M or Superamerica TCU/F1 ECU that I have heard about. Head gaskets are not normally a problem either, unless she overheated.
Hi tazandjan, Thanks for the information. It never overheated. It did backfire when starting. I was told that there was a blown head gasket and they were changed with some that are not supposed to blow. The tech felt that maybe the tranny was defaulting to neutral because the ecu detected a misfiring. Process of ruling out what was wrong with the F1. After the gskt r&r the car ran and felt way better. but started going into neutral when downshifting. I was lucky to get home. I am hopeful that they know what they are doing. Again, thank you. Still own the car!
Sounds like they haven't got a clue what they are doing if it has taken 4 months. Is it a Ferrari specialist? Do they have an SD tool? Have they swapped the ECU with another car's ECU? There are probably a number of reasons why it would slip into neutral.
