Restorations

If the time has not arrived yet it is certainly approaching at full speed.
Does the market now warrant buying a car to restore. Probably a shift in the thinking of the seller mainly and to a lesser extent, the buyer, needs to be made. Of course with a rising market buying a barn find or a classic that consisted of more neglect than patina, (mind you some could never tell the difference), does not make good sense today. So do we see the barn finds disappearing on the open market or in auctions. Are they going to be tucked away until that day comes again in 10 or 15 years. Probably.
The cost of restoring a car and mind you Ferrari's are more expensive than most to restore, will not decrease. The cost of living still remains more than last year and the cost of the dollar per hour rate will be less now than in 10 years. So if any progress is to be made, something has to give. And progress will be made as in the past and as of today.
Some cars will be beyond restoration as the cost of doing so will exceed the value of the finished product. It is up to the public to decide which Ferrari in our case, this would apply too.
The age of a Ferrari would also have profound reasons in deciding if a restoration is viable.
Where the value of the car is going to remain high, restoration will increase that value due to increased costs in making it whole again. Further more, a car that has been restored in recently could well rise in value.
All this takes time to have an effect, but the ground rules are there.
Possibly I should say happy buying if those who feel taking that 'gamble' follow up.
