    Hi, New to this forum.
    Got myself a 458 MY2010.
    Mileage currently about 40,000km

Noticed when driven over un-even ground. There seems to be a knocking sound from the dampers.
Inspected the shocks, no visible leaks.

Front shocks looks replaced (The part number on the shocks are newer than what's meant for my year)
Rear shocks on original part number.

    Car has lifter system.

Is this a common issue? Did a search and seems to find only one thread on this so far.

    Any comments appreciated. Thank you!

Can you tell if the sound is in the front or rear?
If you hit a road split like going over a bridge does it clank? If so that could be ball joint play.
If only on uneven ground it could be the sway bar links.
If you use bumpy road mode does it go away, get worse, or no difference?

I've heard a similar sound twice before (different car). Loose swaybar and loose caliper were the issue.

Seems like gotta take a look at the sway bar first. From cheapest to most expensive fix lol.
Swaybar bushing greasing till full on damper replacements. Zzzzz

Best of luck on the investigation! I hope you can figure out the cause.

Decided to have my Novitec springs installed while checking out the issue.

    1) Sway bars and bushing looks fine.

    2) Installed the novitec springs following the instructions of one thread on this forum (Front shocks stayed on car, remove rear shocks for installation)

    3) Fat fingers me broke one of the electronic control tips on the rear shocks (Lucky for me its the connector that broke so its a 30 bucks connector fix)

Knocking sound is now gone. Could be the top nut is not secured enough previously leading to some strange knocking noises.

I feel that the car is riding better on the Novitec springs. Car is seriously LOW though. The front is as high as it can go and I'll still rub the centre of the car on some humps.

Electronic suspension adjustment is currently not available pending the arrival of the connector.

I wonder if it defaults to the softest setting or (hardest like my previous EDC equipped M3 when theres something wrong with the electronic damping). Butt feel is that its on its softest setting.

I have a similar problem with a spider front suspensions. On uneven roads, it’s knocking and it feels like a dice rolling or somethings lose. This happens in Sport and Wet Mode. But if I switch to Race, it disappears.

Any one knows what could possibly be the problem? Thanks

i think the default is to the hardest setting, i had a leaky shock, and once i lowered the car with novitec springs i got the suspension error (due to more stress on shock i guess) and i couldn't go into bumpy road mode which really sucked until my new shock arrived and all is now fine.

As for lowering the car, you can adjust the height w the novitec, when i first had it lowered it was too low and scraping on everything, had it raised up a bit, still scrapes , but not as bad..the problem is the front of the car is so long, you really can't avoid scraping once you lower it..good news is the under trays aren't that expensive lol
