    What's that thing in the Mercedes exhaust? A heat shield for the mechanics or do they pretend to run with it?

    I think I've solved the biggest problem for Ferrari. They put the decals on the car upside down, the rear wing should say: "MONNIM NOISSIW" which makes just about as much sense.

    They are getting ready for all the rain. They should put SS Minnow on the car.

    Great photos! But someone needs to publish a "glossary of F1 sponsors" so we know who all those names on the cars represent. Jack & Jones? Huski Chocolate? Who ARE these people?

    (And it's not a new problem. Years ago I was puzzled by Candy until they added the wording "Domestic Appliances" below the name. And it was years before I know what Totip was.)

    I guess if qualifying is cancelled but the race goes on that the grid will be set by positions in the championship, in which case Mercedes will have the front row.

    More likely they would just move qualifying to Sunday morning like they did a few years back.

    @lorenzobandini

    hope this helps......

    from Tobi Gruner: "Got some infos about that interesting looking pipe in the back of the Mercedes. Apparently it's just a measurement tool they are using to check whether the exhaust is aligned with the center of the car. Second Mercedes just came with a normal exhaust pipe to scrutineering."

    Or the "powers that be" could just give the trophy to Elton and save getting anybody's shoes wet ?

    Seriously if they need to do something like that why not put the grid in reverse championship order and have a laugh.
    Just as farcical but much more entertaining !

    Russel for the win !

    That's interesting!!

    So I get the configuration on the "outside" of the rim, but I don't on the zig zags on the "inside", and on one side as well. Presumably this is all for heat dissipation; but why the zig zag shape?

    Also, from the "outside" fins, it looks like an aluminium rim, but the " inside ones look like they are from another material or coated, and if coated, that's a complicated shape to machine.

    Any super clever engineers about that can explain?

    heat dissipation will be dependent on surface area. design of the zig zags provide means to achieve the desired outcome by controlling length of a given 'rib'
