    Hello All,

First, I want to thank you in advance for your feedback.

I have narrowed it down to 2 cars and both have approximately 3,000 miles and both are for sale by Private Owners.

    Car 1:
2013 red exterior/black interior, 1 owner, clean title, all service records, and in good condition. The asking price is $209K and the original MSRP was $291K.

    Car 2:
2014 white exterior/red interior, 2 owners, clean title, all service records, and in good condition. The asking price is $209K and the original MSRP was $287K.

I absolutely love the white one with red interior but when I think of a Ferrari, red comes to mind. What should be the maximum I should be paying for these?

Thanks FFan5! How did you come up with $199K? Based on mileage? Age of the car? Original MSRP? It would be great to get some insight into your thought process.

A good friend of mine that has been in the car business for decades often throws out the statement “There is only one used car.”

The first time I heard it I gave him an odd look, and he explained. Once a new car leaves the lot, it will never be exactly the same as any other car on the road. Mileage will vary. Maintenance will vary. Damage may or may not weigh in. And perhaps more relevant to Ferrari, “rare color combo” often means some godawful combination that is deservedly rare because only one nitwit in the world thought it would look good.

No two used cars are exactly the same. Looking at recent sale prices will give you a feel for about where the market is. But I as well as many others will severely discount, or significantly bid up a car that appeals to me.

So what should you pay for your next used car purchase? Exactly what you feel it is worth to you. And not a penny more.

Oh, and I’ve said it before but I’ll throw it in again for the heck of it...

What is this fascination with original MSRP / sticker price? I don’t give a crap, frankly. If I was buying it new, of course. But if I’m buying it used, what do I care? I’ll offer what I think it is worth to me right now. Not what you paid for it however many years ago.

    Between 180 and 195. But I suppose that Barrett-Jackson would say 300...

Which you would be able to determine by simply looking at the car.

Also, some hugely high cost options are irrelevant to me, so an ad blaring “Huge original sticker price includes genuine alpaca fur trunk lining” means what, exactly?

you just answered you own question - to you it means noting. i always ask what the msrp is because its information, and i like more information than less.

Indeed, and that may be our difference. I’m always a big proponent of more data, but I don’t always believe that a data point translates to information.

Anyway, I enjoyed the debate. Thanks!

Agree around 185 or 190 is fair given mileage and private party sale. Id personally go red for the reason you mentioned. I think there are too many white ones. Congrats ahead of time and post pics!

I agree, 2013 should be about $175-185k and 2014 about $185-200. I think the 7 year maintenance plan keeps the prices high.
