Horrible opening game for NCAAF. So many penalties and terrible plays on both sides. So glad the game ended nearly 4 hours later.
At least the Gators won. They have a lot of work, but they have a lot of time to do it, not playing for two weeks, and then against U.T. Martin, which should not be much of a test.
As bad as the Canes played with a "Freshman" OL & Freshman QB, I'm shocked how over rated Florida is. I expected a blow out. With that win, UF should drop in the ratings.
neither team look put together. and either Florida needs to drop in the rankings or Miami needs to crack the top 25.
I was thinking about when UM came up with the (in)famous split-U logo, since I was living in Miami at the time. After years of playing mediocre football as an independent, the UM president in 1972 decided the school needed to spend money to upgrade the football program, and a graphic artist was hired to come up with a logo. The split-U was obviously controversial, since it made no mention of the school name, but the argument was that since UM was the only university in the area at the time, that it might work. Its first use was on dark green helmets late in 1972, which were changed to the current white helmets around 1977. The school came up with the slogan "The U is on the move!" (A new school president in 1979 wanted to scrap the logo but was voted down.) The school began scheduling top teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Penn State and Nebraska, but it took a few years for the Hurricanes to even be competitive with that sort of talent, and many people laughed at their futility. Lou Saban was head coach in 1977-78, and while his record wasn't great, he stepped up recruiting big time, with people like Jim Kelly and Ottis Anderson. Howard Schnellenberger was hired in 1979 and predicted a national championship within 5 years. By 1981 the team became competitive, and in 1983 Schnellenberger made his prediction come true with an upset win over Nebraska. As they say, the rest is history.
Oregon - Auburn had a very entertaining ending. Can't wait for more matchups this season with ranked teams...
Fantastic finish going for the 6 instead of settling for a field goal. Happy my Stanford Cardinal won against a decent Northwestern team. Showdown against USC next week they lost their starting QB will be interesting to see how well the backup plays.
FSU and Tennessee both lost to teams they should have beaten. Week one is over and its a wild college football season already.
Nice to see Colorado beat Nebraska in overtime. SHUCK YOU, CORNHUSKERS! What does the N on the Nebraska helmet stand for? Answer: NOWLEDGE
"Time to feed the Gators.....any Volunteers?" Well, the Gators ate well. Tennessee football is in rough shape! And how about Wazoo blowing a 49-17 lead and losing to a UCLA team that had shown very little this season until something woke them up!
Tough sledding for the Gators. A lot of people say they're overrated, but they are 5-0. Now they have to prove legitimacy, and that won't be easy when three of their next four opponents are ranked in the top 7! And the fourth one, South Carolina, is never easy to beat in their home stadium. So a month from now the Gators could be 5-4, or 6-3, but anything better than that will be a good thing. With the talent on the roster, they could be 8-1, but they'd have to play much better (especially on offense) than they've shown thus far.
Well, they said we were going to lose by 14 on the road, and that's what happened. But Georgia lost at home to a team they were supposed to beat by 21, so now they've dropped below us in the poll. At least they woke us up into how good a team South Carolina (our next opponent) can be. So on that account I have to say, thank you, Bulldogs!
Ugly first half today, but looked a lot better in the second half. These college guys don't know how to play in the rain...UGA-UK game is showing that. 28 total passing yards in the first half combined by both teams! I just want the Gators to end the season in a new years bowl, finish top 10 in rankings, so we can get recruits for next season. So far so good. Btw scary crash today by OU Sooner Schooner. Hope no serious injuries. The live animal moscots always carry that risk...Bevo vs Uga, the Colorado buffalo running loose, etc.
Just imagine if WE had a live mascot? If a live gator got lose in the stadium, it would be a panic situation! I hope we get Greenard and Zuniga back for the Georgia game, because we're going to need all the pass rush that we can muster. When those guys are healthy, QBs are in grave danger - just ask Miami and Auburn! (They may have been available yesterday, but Mullen wisely held them out. The bye week will help.) And fortunately, the Bulldogs have a pretty weak pass rush.
