The Corvette Product Manager had this to say about the reviews and 'understeer' From GM product Manager Harlan Charles ~ A lot of the C8 reviews have commented about the understeer that's present under hard cornering. Really, it's built in as a safety feature to reduce chances of accidents and increase tire longevity. How to get the most out of your C8 at the track: Street Alignment Specs FRONT Caster: 7.4 +/-0.6 deg Camber: -0.5 +/-0.6 deg Sum toe (left + right): 0.10 +/- 0.20 deg REAR Caster: 0 +/-0.8 deg Camber: -0.5 +/-0.6 deg Sum toe (left + right): 0 +/- 0.20 deg Track Alignment Specs FRONT Caster: 8.0 deg Camber: -3.0 deg Sum toe (left + right): 0.1 deg REAR Caster: 0 Camber: -2.5 deg Sum toe (left + right): 0.1 deg" Will the majority of C8 buyers care? Probably not, but the Corvette Team isn't dismissing the ability to make corrections for track use if so inclined.
how cool is that?! gm telling owners how to set their car up for track. love it. another big win for c8
Lutz has a very interesting take on the how and why GM did the developement of the C8. Makes the where the car is today make sense. I always enjoy these AAH's. Thanks for posting.
If you look up the term ‘colorful character’ there’s probably a photo of Mr. Lutz. He liked to say: ‘often wrong..........never in doubt.’ what was interesting during the show was reading the comments of the viewers. Polarizing to say the least.

Lots of others have, thats where the quotes are pulled from. Any USA magazine wants to give the home team, and advertisers the benefit of the doubt. In that enviroment there is still significant if gently put critque. Its also in line with what I have been questioning. Moving the engine to the middle does not make magicaly make it a drivers car. In fact so far what we see is its just conferring drive off an apex, which is to be expected. If vette buyers dont care about things such as understeer, why even bother move the engine tot he middle, as I questioned multiple posts ago, its marketing. Yes this is the base car, but no one is complimenting he brake by wire, even though otehr got it right, and no one is lauding the steering, Those are two critical factors that plenty of others get very right, even in the same price range. A camel is a horse designed by a comitee. What we have here so far is a really quiet comfy Gt car, a modern take on the big american personal coupe. So far I'm not seeing a car of"cosmic significance" or anything remotely a ferrari beater, unless your only measure is 1/4 mile and 0-60. Does the platform have the bandwidth to be something else entirely, that remains to be seen.
^^^^ I think it's funny that you think the U.S. auto press goes easy on GM (and Ford and Chrysler)….. As far as the C8 reviews: The C&D and R&T reviews seem to be written about 2 different cars. Who's right? Up to you once you've DRIVEN the car. Until THEN, it's meaningless.
I have a deposit down on a 2020 Convertible with Mike Furman at Criswell. I did that the day after the coupe was revealed in Tustin. When my slot opens up is debatable. Mike said probably in Spring with the car showing up in Summer but no one really knows the production start dates and the constraints yet. My guess is the strike isn't helping.
motor trend dyno getting 650 hp out of c8! how is this possible? but 11 sec 1/4 mi at 125 with 495hp doesn't make any sense either. interesting for sure https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/enthusiasts/how-much-power-does-the-2020-chevrolet-corvette-really-make-we-take-it-to-the-dyno-and-find-out/ar-AAJ6xbK?li=BBnb4R5
Heres some potential good news. https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2020-corvette-c8-r-race-car-photos-specs/ So maybe its possible that a road going C8R can be great if they go all out and its not just a compromised Gm badge enginering joib.. "according to the Corvette team, both the road and race car were developed at the same time. As such, of the 100 structural components in the C8.R, 80 of them are shared directly with the regular 2020 Corvette. Aside from provisions for the mandated steel roll cage, all the structural guts between the axles are identical".
Paddles= quick shifts with lots of lower gears and me traction makes sense of the acceleration numbers.
dct and me definitely help but not that much. its like Porsche performing more than numbers suggest. a good thing however they do it. that's as long as customer cars are as good as the press cars.
I tend to be less interested in headline numbers and more interested in that the car does. Rolling start numbers with a c7 would be interesting as well as laptimes and sustained laptimes.
i just hope it is true. remember the ferrari cheater cars they used to give to media for testing? hope chevy isnt doing same.
