I didn’t read that properly - it’s your own car! I love the story. I did hanker after a 412i manual, but stories about the bills put me off. Blue is the perfect colour.

Sure but I meant the normal ones, stock.
The most boring sounding V12 I have experienced is the one in the nineties BMW 750/850. Combined with our V12s and what came from Mercedes in its SL and CL and S, and it was only Lambo making great sounding 12s back then. But then McLaren and Pagani used adapted versions of two of those engines.
It’s still strange, how Ferrari V12s went from quite quiet (like in the 250 Cali) to loud flat 12s to quiet in our cars to loud now. And then silent electric power.

I have a Mercedes SL that I just can't bring myself to sell. It's lovely on a sunny day as a cruiser and just a nice place to be.

Easy to drive, starts on the button and I've now taken the brunt of the depreciation on the chin. It would just be sad to let it go. I also think they don't need the big engine. I'm not keen on the AMG versions - you'd be better buying the AMG GT if that's what you're after. The 400 or 500 are just right for this type of car.

Ha! Yes I’ve road tested/reviewed all the McLaren convertibles apart from some of the specials. I like the 650S a lot. 720S left me a bit cold. Depreciation is big and running costs are bigger.

I like Astons, had a Superleggera Volante and DB11 volante for review this year. Superleggera was great but so expensive. I like a last gen V12 Vantage volante S manual also. That’s in consideration along with the 911, a Cali 30 HS, and more wine.

Darius, they have that reputation because too many of them were not properly maintained. The 412 is the last iteration of the Columbo V-12 and properly maintained they are bullet-proof. Mine has been correctly maintained by all prior owners and me, is presently at Ferrari of New England where it has just had a full service, new factory exhaust and FNE has told me the car would be eligible for Ferrari Classische if I wished.

The Islero is the one Lamborghini I would buy. Some fifteen years ago I almost persuaded the founding president of the U.S. Club to sell me his, an S model. Wish he had.

Espada, to look at, wonderful. To own, not a chance. I spent much of my youth in an enforced friendship with my local breakdown service, Olympic. It was a weird irony when the same breakdown service, which also delivers cars, delivered me a Urus for review earlier this year. The mere sight of the Olympic logo gave me the creeps. With an Espada, I’d be on their gold loyalty scheme within days.
Seriously, I get a few days a year, max, to drive my classic cars. If a couple of those are spent loading one onto a rescue truck, the thrill really isn’t there. I’d take a Portofino, or a Cali 30 HS, over an Espada, despite the looks.

That car used to belong to a friend of mine. Moore drove it in The Man Who Haunted Himself. He then bought another Moore car, from The Persuaders:

You're right Darius, a completely different kind of car's, you are looking for. Please tell us finally your decision, for which car you went for….

Think, I'm more lucky, non of my classic cars broke down during my ownership, not even the ever overheating Pantera....

Darius- The Huracan is a much better Lamborghini (and car) than the Gallardo, if the price is not too high.

Option 1 is not usually optional! Go for option 6 and buy an E-type.

An E-Type will certainly fill up your weekends, or your mechanic's.

In my experience (almost 20 years of E-type ownership), if properly serviced etc., an E-type is by no means as unreliable as some people will have you believe and requires no more attention than most cars now approaching 60 years of age. Parts availability is excellent and considerably cheaper than Ferrari, Porsche, etc.

Darius, if you want to sample E-type motoring some time, drop me a line.

Interesting. My 74 Pantera has never overheated. Still has the original radiator and fans...

Yes I just don’t have the bandwidth to get to know a whole new world of specialists, owners, and problems, let alone spend time on Etypechat. Beautiful cars though.

I agree. Though I have never had more animosity than when reviewing the Huracan Spider. Great car. But the attention it gets. I was tailed across central London by a guy in a phat Range Rover for a perceived slight, him blasting his horn and gesticulating and literally following my every turn, even when I deviated onto side streets. I made my way to Tony Blair’s house where police with Heckler & Koch machine pistols are on duty 24/7, and parked in front of them. Phat RR guy stops behind me, gets out shouting, then realises we have company, gets in his car threatening me and saying he knows where I live, and blubbers off.
That wasn’t the only instance, in the week I had the car I had more road rage than in the last 10 years combined, and was stopped by police 4 times (always let go, no crime). No Ferrari has attracted anything like it.
And this is in central London, which is bristling with supercars.
So, great car, but that would put me off.

Darius- Not much difference between a Gallardo and Huracan in that respect. Both stand out quite well.

Your buddy in the Land Rover might get shot over here, especially in Albuquerque.
