Yesterday I was out in the boonies with a group when I started noticing my gauge getting in the 1/8-1/4 range. I found gas, and put a bit less than 14 gallons in. When I got home and had a chance to check the book, I found that the tank holds 20+ gal. and the reserve is about 5 gal. My limited reading skills would make me think that the car carries 25 gallons. However, it seems that what they actually mean is that when the gauge reads "Emptyish", you have a 5 gal. reserve, and the total, including reserve is 20 gal.

Can anyone confirm the 'real' answer? Thanks

I don't have the manual in front of me, but generally the reserve starts when the fuel light comes on. So if the manual says 5gals, that's when you have 5 gallons left, or about 50mi.
The 20gallon capacity is the total capacity. It's not plus 5 gallons.

I've only once seen the fuel light, and if you top these off, the fuel sender can get stuck.
I generally put in 10-12 gallons when it hits a 1/4 tank.

Mine always reads low, better than reading high I suppose.

My light comes on at 2-gallons left in the tank--about 40 miles the way I generally drive, less than 4 laps at the track.

When my light comes on, I can usually add about 15 gallons, so I seem to be Right on with the 5 gallons left in the 20 gallon tank.
