    Not sure it's legal to (apply to the car) a reproduced actual VIN plate...?

    Pls chime in if you have some expertise on it.

    I'm willing if I can borrow one to reproduce. Alternatively, a scanned image with very accurate dimensions may work.

    Zero expertise, and don't see why it would be. Numbers matching, OEM spec, which federal/state agency would be responsible for governing this? Number still stamped on the frame. And if not trying to do something actually illegal like VIN swapping or theft, seems reasonable to replace something that may have been damaged, missing or otherwise illegible.

    I know unstamped, reproduction VIN plates are readily available for Series and Defender Land Rovers.

    State DMV is responsible for this in conjunction with Federal. I highly advise that you contact your own State's department, before cutting a VIN plate off your car and affixing another one.

    It's my understanding that Euro cars didn't come with vin plates in the door. Is this correct?

    Number stamped on frame...if you're not trying to do something illegal, why knot up your panties over a new VIN plate...just do it. You think some DMV doofus will have any clue you swapped out a VIN plate for one that's nice and readable and matches all the info on your car...please...
