Like a lot of 550's the switch plate on mine has fallen to bits... to get it out and replace do you have to remove the dashboard or can it be removed by taking the swtiches out and access via the heat panel hole ??

I replaced my switch plate a couple of years ago. I was lucky to find an aluminum one on eBay that was hand made, including the studs!

Remove the temperature control box to get access to the back of the switch plate. The box pulls right out and you can disconnect the connectors to it.

The switches push straight out from behind once you have access. Then you can disconnect the connectors.
I recall the nuts being hard to get at - not a problem with the broken plate, but a pain to install the upper ones on the new plate.
