I installed the Hella, glass, 7" headlight housing with Aukee H4 LED Headlight Bulbs. These are all plug and play and MUCH brighter than standard headlamps. It is literally a night and day difference (pun intended). All can be purchased from Amazon for less than $100.

I looked at the vintage car led page and was thinking that they looked like the Hella H4 E-Code light units with LED bulbs. It sounds like you have essentially put the same package together on you own for way less $$$. I think I’ll try this! Thanks!!

Here is what I installed on my '79 308:

HELLA 002395031 Vision Plus 178mm H4 High/Low Beam Conversion Headlamp (Housing Only) ($28.83 each. At Amazon)

Aukee H4 LED Headlight Bulbs, 50W 6000K 10000 Lumens Extremely Bright (9003 Hi/Lo) CSP Chips Conversion Kit. ($26.34/pair at Amazon)

I have not tried to align the headlights yet. I will have to read the Hella application note to see if it us any different than adjusting standard headlights. No modifications are necessary for installation.

I looked at doing the same thing, buying the housings separately. What I don’t understand though is that the left and right housings are different because the lens on the right side allows a much higher beam. (In the right hand drive countries, of course, this is reversed.) When you buy the matching set from Hella they give you a right and left side.
