+1 to 458, but it has endless shock absorber issues. You almost have to be comfortable with it without the absorbers. Every other month and a half of daily driving, and each of the 4 will take turns to leak. If ur ok with that, go for it; and dont bother with the lifter option, it breaks down more often than it works.
Why do you mean? Even though its priced below market you wont buy it because it doesn’t have 30k miles?
I have yet to see a 458 that is $10K more than a F430 unless the F430 is way overpriced. In general most 458 are about $40K to $60K more.
It's never going to be one on one until about what?... 15 to 20 years out. Today for example: red 2006 430 with 10,886 miles asking $139,881 (https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/791326308/overview/) -or- black 2008 Ferrari F430 Berlinetta with 7,678 miles asking $128,950 (https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/761498464/overview/) versus black 2011 458 with 44,693 miles asking $132,975 (https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/790304128/overview/) Why would I get a "pristine" 430 when I can get a 458 for less or maybe $4000 more if paying asking? Granted it has higher miles, but with such low miles on the 430 I'd have to worry about the e-diff, does the clutch need to be replaced, etc. etc. and then would the 430 at the top of the price range have even more depreciation? Granted, above are "ask" prices.. which also extend to the 458! And I didn't check any for accident..
Because in those cases the 430 is fully loaded and pristine for the most part, and the 458 shows like Justin Bieber loaned it to some coked-up strippers to drive in the Everglades for a year ;-) I've been looking at the same scenario for years and the 458 in every case has had issues, mostly cosmetic, and if you can live with higher than average wear and tear I'm sure there are some great deals on a 458.
Yeh a low mile buyer and a high mile buyer are usually 2 different people. People who are ocd and want a sub 5k mile cld never be satisfied owning a 40k mile car. Neither is right or wrong, chocolate ice cream vs vanilla. Also not everyone yearns for the crazy hp a 458 had...there is something to be said about driving a 430 and there is something fun about the f1 in that car. The 458 f1 is so good it feels like a video game. In spider form i prefer the 430 over the 458... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For 2 or 3 canyon blasts a month I agree. To drive 2 to 3 times a week in more metro/suburban roads id take 430 over the Scud
I have both a 430 and a 550 they’re totally different experiences, the 430 is the perfect weekend fun car.
I had no idea we were in that thread - too many of the same topics all the time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Very true and on point....I just went this morning for a nice spirited drive up the turnpike in my 2007 F430, top down, exhaust blasting on downshifts,.....damn, for a 12-year old car, with 20K miles, i cannot imagine a better ride. As others have said, drive both and your experience will tell you. Good problems to have!
What's the 550 like compared to the 430? I ask because I have a person wanting to trade and I don't know what to do
one is a gt, and the other is potentially a very sporty track car. the enjoyment of a 550 is to be had in longer trips with a stable and comfortable ride. the 430 always feels like it wants to drive itself to the track or the edge of town, and explode down the road. nimble but loud and twitchy. really 2 very different cars built for different purposes.
One of the best part of this forum Is how ppl describe cars; pretty cool and priceless! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That part about it wanting to explode down the road is spot on. I just went to run some errands in the F430 to get it warmed up for tonight’s F1 FCA dinner, and the whole time I was just itching for traffic to clear up and open her up. Then the sound resonating off the concrete barriers on/around the overpassed kept egging me on to give it a punch. It wants to go. The 458 is much more subdued when race mode is not activated, but that’s just my impression from a handful of drives. I think it has to do with the transmission differences, but who knows.
I would say the 2010 458 are one of the loudest thing ever though, witch cracks and burbles. Love it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I also really love this thread… It highlights the simplicity of what we really love. I’m sure I would love a 458 or a 488 or at 430. The reality is is I own 430, and I adore it I’m a lucky dude Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
The 550 is such a special car. It has a timeless beauty and an engine that has an old school feel but refined and pull like a freight train up to the redline. The car is great for touring or pushed hard at the track, it’s amazingly unflappable. The 430 is more focused with an engine that explodes with energy but at a pace that is manageable on the street. For me this is the pinnacle of a mid engine Ferrari experience, a screaming powerful engine and controls that still feel natural so the car feels alive. The handling is pin sharp but not to nervous and the electronic aids that came of age with this series(e-diff) feel very complimentary to the driving experience. The 550 is a more mature car that inspires with its beauty and depth of personality while the 430 is great for the quick hit of adrenaline. They are both masterpieces, they don’t have the headline ring times to impress the crowd at cars and coffee but they do represent the finest “sports and GT” cars from a bye gone era at Ferrari.
