So I moved a very close friends early 330 motor out of storage for him and the Dilemma quickly arose. What to do with it? He is a widely known Ferrari guru and can restore it to full condition with no problem. He has every nut, bolt and carburetor for it. However here’s the dilemma, An old customer he has wants to buy it as is and pay to restore it, then stuff it in some LM recreation. However, the customer is not someone he cares to deal with and doesn’t want to restore it for him. Especially because it’s not going back in a 330.

The old customer offered 30k ( doesn’t seam like a bad price) should he sell it and refuse to restore it for his own sanity?
Or is it better to restore the motor and wait for a better price?
Or is the offer price as is, low (In conjunction with not returning to a real Ferrari)? There for wait and deal with it later.

First (ethical) thing, IMO, would be to check the engine number & determine if the car it was originally in still exists and has not yet been hacked into some kind of fakey-do/replica, like the intended LM thing.
If the car exist in its original format, but with some incorrect engine, contact its current owner to see if he/she/they has interest acquiring this engine for fair market value (to be determined) ?
And perhaps if the engine in that car belongs to some other vintage Ferrari, your friend could suggest contacting owner(s) of that car for some kind of three-way deal or trade....

he may rebuilt the engine to the max and try to find out the owner of the original car and sell this engine then to him
if the original car not exist anymore then may be an other owner like to have a spare engine?

He’d do himself a huge favor just to acquire the engine to keep with...even if not in....the car it belongs with.......In my opinion.

For only $30k, the owner of that chassis needs to buy it. Even if he leaves it in boxes in the garage for another 10-20 years.

Did you ask him how much for the car with the LS1 motor? Although if he knows you have the engine he might price gouge you.

If the car has an LS1 engine, might the transmission have also gone bye bye to an undisclosed location, and the differential, and the "X," and the "Y," and the "Z?" Sounds like the car could be just another Resto-Mod with hacks.

The idea was approached. However, regardless to the right or wrong of the car, the owner like his car and the way it is.... so, we move on

The transmission is gone. A few years back it was available, but whom, where and any details has disappeared. As for the differential, I believe (not certain) it was adapted to.

Have you been able to determine who was responsible for initially removing and/or not replacing the engine (or the transmission) back to said car... and why ?
Was it the current car owner, preferring to SB Chevy or... ?

In your position, I would restore the motor [ if he can do it himself] and sell it to the highest bidder in this situation, you never know it may even go back to a 330 owner if it is well advertised.
Now the word is out on here, it may help find a 330 owner?

Well I do know the whole story. The prior owner ( not current owner) elected to not rebuild the original motor. He decided he wanted a more cost effective replacement motor, hence the corvette motor. He then sold on the car to the current owner who apparently couldn’t care less about what is under the hood. Again, it’s his car and his choice. No disrespect to his opinion.

    I'll disrespect his opinion.

His opinion is not cool. Especially since he doesn't even want the original motor on the side since it goes with the car.

Seriously - 99.9% of vintage Ferrari owner/enthusiasts would give their right hand for the opportunity to reunite an engine w/ its chassis. Even if he likes the LS1, keep it in there, but buy the engine. Even if he doesn't give a crap about reunification, he would double the value of his car just by having the matching engine. Surely he gives a crap about that?

The owner of the car may not have the means to buy the engine, get it rebuilt, as well as buying a correct gearbox and getting the axle re-adapted.
