Hi folks, I'm new to the forum and a proud owner of a gorgeous Australian delivered black 88 328 GTS. We're doing some work for a Victorian roadworthy cert. One task was to fix the seized driver side seat rail - not only for the roadworthy, but I'm 6'3 tall and couldn't get the car into fourth without jamming my knee in the current config. Anyhow, we pulled the seat out and when looking for a replacement, noticed that the ones I have are completely different from the workshop diagrams. I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me ID these ones? Then there's the question of replacing with the period correct rails, or finding more of these ones. Thanks so much for your help. I think the railings are original but the lever or handle is customized, Oh and congrats and welcome, please post some pics of your car.
Thanks! Here's a couple of pics. (don't worry - it doesn't live out in the open) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
In typical newb fashion, I’ve been looking at diagrams for the wrong seat. Pre-1988 cars have different rails with the central adjuster. What a quality debut thread! Feel free to pull this down @moderator.
LOL not a big deal. You’re still getting to know your car. Big congrats on becoming a 328 owner. Love the right hand drive and noticed you have flag mirrors. Thought they only came on North American cars?
Thanks! I adore red on a Ferrari, but there's something about the black on the 328 that looks pretty special.
Those rails are the same as mine & are now NLA as far as I know.. Be very careful with the adjuster mechanism when you use it - if the teeth on the cog get worn then there is no fixing it that I can see & the seat won't stay where you want it. If anyone knows of a replacement that would be useful!
You already have a replacement rail in the car. It is attached to the passenger seat that never wears out. Swap it left to right and your driver side is good for another 30 years of use.
I'm finding exactly that. Ferrari don't have the parts and I'm struggling to find any used. I might need a temp solution while waiting for the correct part to appear. Does anyone have any aftermarket rail recommendations?
Unfortunately, for an Australian roadworthy I need both seats functional. Otherwise I would have done exactly that. Thanks for the suggestion!
Am ahead of you there (But I'd like to find another one anyway) Although I'm the only one to drive my car I find that I do adjust the seat position. I'll have it one notch further back if I'm sitting on a motorway for any length of time.
What you will find will happen with it is that the teeth will wear/break in just one place - just where you need it too be to drive the car! The rest of it is probably OK
Ya know, when I mentioned some years back that there was an adjuster that would advance the ratchet the seat incrementally by raising the front bar I was called daft, a fool, even non-mechanically inclined! Lester
Hey Iain, I may have found a few sets of rails. Once they arrive, I'll see if I can put a good working set together and if so, I'll let you know.
I also need a right hand set of rails for a 1987 328 GTB. If there is another set available. Another RHD. Regards Marc.
