This 550 will be in Bonhams' auction later this month: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/25448/lot/220/?category=list&length=209&page=1 I seem to have seen that, er, interesting interior somewhere before - surely there cannot be two like it?
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/ferrari/550/ferrari-550-maranello-1-of-457-uk-rhd/8636068 It's been for sale at Kaaimans for a while, just never had a realistic asking price for 55k mile car. I really like the exterior colour, the interior needs a re trim.
I've seen it many times. I think the interior is fine although I'm not too sure about the steering wheel. It did have some aftermarket wheels on in the past which I didn't much care for. I think only 5 UK cars in Rosso Fiorano. Kaaimans have had it for sale since May last year so, yes, a while! Given Kaaimans had it up for £85k (although recently reverted to £90k) the estimate seems a bit on high side. Why would you buy a car at auction for £80k (low estimate) when you could have got the same car from a dealer at an asking price of £85k? By the time you've added on commission and allowed for any discount you might negotiate from the dealer, you'd likely be better off even without allowing for much better opportunity to do due diligence etc.
It's LHD twin is also available, but with a less shouty steering wheel:- https://speedmastercars.com/vehicle/ferrari-550-maranello/
Wonder if they were ordered by the same person originally? Looks like the salesman guiding colours for spec either didn’t like the guy or was just really crazy about two tone interiors and a strange sense of design
That stereo thing was seriously ugly. What makes a person do installations like that in a beautiful car like that??
I'd imagine it's a result of a time when these vehicles breifly became worth very little and were owned by people who were not the usual demographic.
mine wasn’t, it was tan throughout with black dash top, wheel etc. The burgundy just doesn’t look right
That sounds like two tone black and tan to me where pretty much the Bordeaux sections in the pictured car were black and the cream bits were tan.
I did this broker deal. Weird interior for that outside color, IMO. https://www.gullwingmotorcars.com/1999-ferrari-550-maranallo-c-3079.htm But it makes sense, because the owner who order his 550 like that, also ordered his 430 like this... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2006-ferrari-f430-spider/
Not the ugliest one I’ve seen but close. That weird green one that kid had who traded it for a 599. For me, I still have nightmares about waking up to that car.
It’s not what I would call two tone, as the seats were not two colours, nor any other trim, just the dash top and a few other obvious standard black trim. Outer was Tour de France
Oh dear, I must have no taste, I like all these cars. If resale were no concern, and the car was good, I’d be happy with a raspberry ripple 550. Just more interesting (if less tasteful) than my red with black (RIP). I even quite like the Bananaman 430, but I think that has been for sale since it was built. Actually I prefer the interior to the exterior, I don’t think giallo suits the 430 like it does the 550/575. Would I change my TDF/beige 575 to the two tone? Sure, if someone would guarantee me the same resale. Same with my conventional Grigio/Crema 430. I wonder what the Bonhams car will go for. I like it!
My 550 was all black wen I bought it, so I went two tone: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That’s very nicely done, John. Is that Beige? My 575 is beige leather and it feels very classy, although the word doesn’t translate well into English!
Yes, it is. Unfortunate name, as you say - connotations of elderly gentlemen's cardigans. Why can't Ferrari give it a proper, Italian sounding name? "Cuoio chiaro", perhaps.
Image Unavailable, Please Login John, that is georgeous. Looks like mine except your beautiful quilted roof and nice blue quilted shelf. I am contemplating doing blue inserts on my Daytona’s
Thankyou. The rear shelf is actually black (one part of the originally all-black interior that I kept), just poor colour reproduction in the photo. IMHO contrasting inserts in the seats would be too busy, which is why I had mine done plain and non-Daytona.
I see what you mean about the inserts and it’s the thing that stops me from doing it. I’ll probably leave it. The tan in mine is slightly darker than the standard tan and not couio. The piping is (as is yours) the perfect finish. I just added 575 OEM wheels and IMO they are the perfect finish for the marranello.
