Not trying to stir the pot, just curious. Read the most recent Motor Trend (COTY issue) and they test drove the F8. Their words- they took the engine from the' track-focused 488 Pista and revised it even further with lessons learned....' Does this mean there is significant improvement compared with the Pista? I thought the debate was whether the F8 was lucky enough to get the Pista's engine.

Yes. Engine is better in f8. So is suspension. The turn signals also work quicker and the AC is a bit more effective as well. All in all, the F8 is a vastly superior car when you add it all up.

It’s so good I special ordered a F8 engine from the factory and I’m going to have a chop shop install it into my Pista.

Okay, that rips it. I'm dumping that turd of a Pista I've got coming. F8, here I come! Seems like I ought to just about break even on the trade...I hear F8s are commanding quite a premium, what with that new Carbon Fiber tub they cleverly introduced. Make no mistake, the 458/488 architecture you THINK you see in the F8 is all a ruse...

Didn't Enzo say something to the effect that with Ferrari you are buying the engine and you are lucky enough to get the rest of the car for free?

They still sing that same song. They must figure it helps to defuse warrantable situations such as when the car won't start or the battery fails for no good reason. I very much doubt F8 will be immune from this. I was forewarned on the day of delivery just how susceptible the Pista battery is to sudden failure. It was very comforting knowing how much development they put into this area since 488....which went through 2 battery failures in 14 months. But as I keep getting told all I've paid for is the engine...the rest I'm getting for free!

I heard the added weight of the F8 will result in more grip too, so the F8 is also faster...... Uh, right?

Like with any kind of journalism, don't believe anything you read.

No, the F8 engine is not better, it's the same. According to the local tech here, the Pista variant makes more torque in the lower gears.

    They both use 6.Xx SSC

The F8 has softer suspension for better comfort

The Pista has firmer suspension for better performance

The Pista is 40 lbs. lighter not including CF wheels

    Same brakes

ESC/ABS is same generation, but tuned differently.

In some ways they are very similar, and yet they are very different. Which is better depends on the parameters you go by, but the Pista is the more special.

For a motoring journalist to say that the F8 engine is better, is downright idiotic. I suppose Ferrari is still twisting the thumb screws, of that journalist needs to seek a different line of work...

It's a joke referring to the ridiculousness of saying that the F8 engine is better than the Pista engine.

I have to ask. You ask a lot f questions, which is fine, in east and west kind of randomly. Are you looking to purchase a 458, 488 or F8, do you know someone who owns one, or are you just generally interested in Ferraris?

The Pista is so fast. Far far faster than standard 488. Is the F8 is close to as fast it will be a massive improvement.

The F8 is only half a second faster than the 488 on Fiorano. But the Pista is a second faster than the F8. So the Pista is to quote you, far, far faster than both.

Recently, another Ferrari owner said to me, "now that you have a Pista, are you going to upgrade to the new F8?" (dead serious question).

    Huh?

I had a good laugh. Politely explained the differences between the two cars.

Its not the speed of the car that excites me as an upcoming Pista owner - its cause its a Pista.
