With my driveline in prime condition it is time to start on the interior maintenance, I have some sticky vents and my dash has a developing banana. I am good with pulling the dash and shipping it if there is nothing local. Does anyone have a place they have used for new dash leather? I would prefer something in driving distance of D.C. but I can ship it if needed.

Re-Originals has the Original smooth Black leather. Have to buy 1/4 1/2 or full hides though.

Not sure what part of Virginia you are in but David Carte is one of the top restorers in the country and is in Virginia. You should find out who does his interior work. Might be local saving you a bunch of drama.

You might give Dave a call at Sticky RX. I know he had that work done on a 355 he's restoring.

With things like engines, trans, suspension I am OK with that, this needs to be outsourced or it will look like a dollar store sneaker!

Does anyone have the correct type of sewing machine to do the lower leather of the dash. Got some stitching in there.

Replacing the leather/vinyl on your dash or other interior part is not difficult. It requires dedication time and a Chinese leather sewing machine. With no sewing skills what so ever i purchased a Chinese leather sewing machine on amazon for about 120 dollars and and started watching YouTube videos.

It took a few hours of practice and I had to “fine tune” the sewing machine but i was able to successfully re-do my dash board and an on doing everything else as well. You will need the following main ingredients:

Chinese leather sewing machine: $120 - bought from amazon
Number 18 leather needle pack- $6 - eBay
Contact cement glue- $10 - Home Depot
    1/8 inch foam backing - $12 - eBay
    Thread #69 bonded nylon - 10- amazon
Leather smooth lambskin- $36 for 8 square feet - there is only one supplier on eBay that I buy my leather from. The quality is great and I have been buying leather from him/her for the last year or so never disappointed.
    YouTube videos - priceless

It was intimidating at first but with some practice and patience you will quickly learn how to do it. I now find it so easy to do that I am considering “leatherizing” my Boxster and air cooled beetle as well once I am done with the 348. If you can wrench on a car you can take your interior apart and redo the dash or any other interior component. The lid piece with the 348 TS logo (radio cover) was the first piece I reupholstered. It did not come at as well as I hoped but I will simply redo it.

Chinese leather sewing machine.. will it also sew Italian or Australian leather?:)
That leather grain seems not correct for the car although it may not matter.
Awesome you did it yourself, thanks for sharing experience and thoughts on it.

It is definitely not the correct grain but this one looks and feels so smooth....like a lamb’s butt (it’s lamb skin). The preparation takes some time but it’s rewarding and worth it. I have yet to finish the entire dash but it can be a DIY if you have the patience and determination.
