Callipers were rebuilt which is nice, means no stuck pistons to deal with so I took them apart to plate them the correct colour. Everything is painted silver so Ill strip the paint then send everything out for yellow zinc and the bolts / nuts will be black as per original. how you close the holes for the pistons when you bring them for plating? perhaps you have an ATE part number for the sealing rings/rebuilt kit?
Very nice work indeed. I have not seen the spinners mentioned so far in this thread (perhaps I missed them). Are they part of this restoration and if yes, what is planned for them?
I really wish this was like a Netflix Original where the entire rebuild was posted at one time. I can't stand waiting...
I seem to remember that somebody asked re the potato sack material (tessuto sacco patate) for seats and door panels in very early 365 GT4 BB's. Here are sample photos. Second photo shows front (left) and rear/back side (right). Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Marcel but that material is incorrect. I have that sample here as well and currently waiting for a new sample made elsewhere using an original piece as a reference.
Ill need to wear a white hazmat suit for the post restoration shakedown so I dont get a speck of dirt on them. More examples..... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, you may want to discuss that with the original manufacturer. Suggest to contact Tappezzeria MAIELI near Mantova, Italy. https://www.interniautomaieli.com/ Marcel Massini
I had them in my private stash, Ive had several over the years. I was kind of hoarding spinners for a while.
This material is the original sack material from an early 365 Boxer, the other (correct) materials sent when you try to have your interior returned to its former glory are incorrect. My seats were sent back to the factory in 1974 as the sack cloth “failed” and they were Trimmed in leather. The leather was removed this summer in a joint venture between Paul and myself. Inside the seat revealed fragments of the original material. The thickness of the twine/thread is different to all the samples available but is a 100% match for the larger section Paul has already pictured and is shown once again here. On this sample section you can see that the twine/thread is a different size from left to right as it is from top to bottom. On the original it’s the same. It was used on 30 cars and doesn't appear to have beer used on any other tipo’s. Possible due To the fact that it failed probably ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can you imagine telling an owner of a new vehicle now that he was going to be off the road for so long nowadays ! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Is there a good simple state-side source for this material? I saw the one Italian link. Re-originals perhaps? I could use a little for a 308. Using an abundance of caution, I removed some small pieces and washed by hand. There was some yellow-ish staining I couldn't clean. Still looks way better, but I would still consider replacing.
