Leaving Wesley's hobbies for a moment, here's some interesting factoids: In the summer of 1895-96, a heat wave in south-eastern Australia killed 437. A country-wide heat wave in 1911-12 killed 143. The Victorian heat wave of 1938-39 killed 438. In 1896, we had a total population of just over 1 million, in today's terms with 25m, the heatwave killed over 10,000 people. These heatwaves have been "adjusted" from the historical temperature records by the BoM, using methods they refuse to disclose, despite multiple FOI requests.
Whilst I 100% agree that if temps have been adjusted, this should be explained, it has to be mentioned that I don't think it is possible to direct comparisons of the number of people who died as people are now better protected from the heatwaves due to better homes, workplace buildings, better overall health health etc. I think it's disingenuous to ignore the many factors that are now protective of people. Just because people die at a lower rate, doesn't mean the heatwaves are less intense etc.
I agree, however the media so often describe temperature, drought and fire conditions as "catastrophic" when in fact nothing has changed. We have had higher temperatures and longer droughts in the past, notable the federation drought and the 1930's heatwaves. There is now so much contrary evidence, from very credible research, that it takes determined ignorance to continue to believe that CO2 controls temperature. 170 Years of Earth Surface Temperature Data Show No Evidence of Significant Warming Author: Thomas K. Bjorklund, University of Houston, Dept. of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences October16, 2019 Key Points 1. From 1850 to the present, the noise-corrected, average warming of the surface of the earth is less than 0.07 degrees C per decade. 2. The rate of warming of the surface of the earth does not correlate with the rate of increase of fossil fuel emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere. 3. Recent increases in surface temperatures reflect 40 years of increasing intensities of the El Nino Southern Oscillation climate pattern. Abstract This study investigates the relationships between surface temperatures from 1850 to the present and reported long-range temperature predictions of global warming. A crucial component of this analysis is the calculation of an estimate of the warming curve of the surface of the earth. The calculation removes errors in temperature measurements and fluctuations due to short-duration weather events from the recorded data. The results show the average rate of warming of the surface of earth for the past 170 years is less than 0.07 degrees C per decade. The rate of warming of the surface of the earth does not correlate with the rate of increase of CO2 in the atmosphere. The perceived threat of excessive future global temperatures may stem from misinterpretation of 40 years of increasing intensities of the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) climate pattern in the eastern Pacific Ocean. ENSO activity culminated in 2016 with the highest surface temperature anomaly ever recorded. The rate of warming of the earth’s surface has dropped 41 percent since 2006.
Just got an email from FCA about the AusGP suite for next year. Can anyone explain why Victorian members have to pay $100 more for a 3 day tickets than our non-Victorian counterparts?
The FCA Aus GP suite is a national FCA event and is subsidisied by the entire club , although the majority of members who attend are from Victoria. Interstate members pay a little less to offset the cost of getting to the GP, its designed to encourage interstate members to attend. M
Why do we need to “encourage” interstate members to attend? I don’t recall being offered a $100 discount to attend the national rally event in Canberra. What you’re actually saying is “The FCA Aus GP suite is a national FCA event and is subsidisied by the entire club, but subsidised even more by Victorian members” By the way, can you explain to what level our membership fees are being put towards subsidising the FCA suite?
