Last movie I saw was animal house back when it came out. I here its good but I remember it when it happened Dont want to tarnish my old grumpy memories of reality in my sick big thick head
Yep. Me too. A group of local Ferrari friends are going but I said I remember when it happened. This documentary that was on Speed Vision years ago was pretty good though. Carroll Shelby played himself.
Good movie and it doesn't paint Ferrari in a bad light like alot originally thought. Good for non gearheads as well and is showing with box office numbers so far. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Just finished seeing it. I give it a B+. Good movie, entertaining, but lacking. There was hardly anything related to Ferrari's side of the story, only Ford's side, or should I say Shelby & Miles. The directing, writing and cinematography was a little bit too "Fast and the Furious" style for me. I was hoping for more of a 50/50 perspective of the battle between the two car marks, and a bit more of a documentary style movie. That didn't happen, it was 90% Ford and 10% Ferrari. That's why is didn't get a better grade from me. A good movie but don't expect much about Ferrari when watching it.
Not sure why one would expect a detailed story about Ferraris side as I'm sure that is a part of history that they probably don't like talking about. Ultimately it was Ford who was the underdog and that's what makes the story great.
HF II tried to buy Ferrari. Enzo backed out. II was pissed. Went no holds bared to win Le Mans to teach him a lesson. Took a couple of years and Carroll Shelby and he did. End of story. I don't need a high volume, IMAX headache for that. Now, show me a movie about Normandy; something that matters. I can't see this being a high, general interest movie. Limited audience. All hype. It will be On Demand in a couple of months.
Cars: check Entertaining: check Ferrari kool-aid: no, but that's not what it's about. If they made the Ferrari version, it'd probably be like the reports of I hear of "joker" with Bruce Wayne portrayed as a total a**hole. Me: Is the movie told from the joker's point of view? Them: "OHHHHHH!" (now, i've not seen it, i'm just going on the predictability of hollyweird) Normandy: I'll go back to see it instead of watching a movie. sjd
And the sequel will be Ford vs Chevy in Trans am. Bud Moore vs Rodger Penske. In 69 Penske with Mark Donohue won TA again but in 70 Moore with PJ beat Penske. But wait, that was Ford vs AMC, (so maybe Moore vs Penske?), and it only lasted a year when Penske and Donohue beat Ford in the 71 Javelin, and Ford got beat again by Penske and the 72 Javelin with George Follmer at the wheel (moved over to Penske in 71). Oh, those were the good old days!
I saw the movie last night, I liked it. Any car movie that feeds the Petrol head is fine in my book. I would say it was an interesting story told.
The local Porsche Club rented out the entire theater. I am going with them to see it tomorrow evening.
Because the title is “Ford vs Ferrari” and not “Ford wins LeMans”. That would be like watching the Super Bowl and the network only showing the huddles for the opposing team, and 90% of the broadcast for the winning team’s plays, downs, and scores = BOOOORIIIIING!!! You never got any sense of what a powerhouse Ferrari was as a racing team. That is what was really lacking in the movie.
The movie is Ford vs Ferrari. If there was a movie called Ferrari vs Ford then that would suggest that the story line would revolve around what Ferrari was doing in the day! I enjoyed the movie. Thought it was great. Not a lot of Ferrari content BUT it was Ford vs Ferrari.
Agreed. The content of the movie isn't really reflected in the title, it was more a hollywood version of the Ford/Shelby/Miles/GT40 story, but I guess they had to make the title more marketable. That said, I just saw it last night and I liked it, I was entertained. I went with family members unfamiliar with the technicality that robbed Miles, they didn't understand without some explanation what exactly happened that made Miles not the winner. Thought Damon did an OK job as Shelby and I like most movies with Christian Bale.
Or just like any WW2 ETO movie who makes it look like the USA won on their own when in fact the Russians carried the biggest load. Count on any movie or any story being told lionizing the side of who made or told it.
I'll disagree with this statement. The Russian counted on the weather to wear down the Germans and then counter attached. The Allied sent 5000 ships and millions of men to Normandy.
"1917" is out in theaters soon. The cinematography looks to be outstanding. "Midway" is out now and I cant wait to go see it. Reviews were quite good and I'm a huge fan of the original, 1976 "Midway" movie.
Not to mention (yes, I know you specified European Theater of Operations), just how many men and how much equipment the United States had deployed in the Pacific at the same time.
