Yes, another bad call from the team. They should have had Vettel let Leclerc through with his newer tires and especially seeing how bad Vettel was on the restart.

I'm sure Leclerc's pass was borne of frustration trailing him and watching the leaders run away.

Blame this on Liberty and the broadcasters.
They don't want the "dead air" waiting for a podium ceremony.
So they have the "top three" interviews as they get out of the cars, and the podium too soon for the stewards to settle things.
Mostly because they want to end the broadcast quickly after the finish.

(ESPN drops the Sky coverage long before Sky is done. Sometimes even before the podium ceremony.)

They could have done that with a pit stop under the safety car. Pretty easy solution.

I hope they find Vettel turned into Leclerc and he gets penalized. This way at least Binotto and team will not have any way to keep protecting Vettel.

Agreed. They should delay the podium ceremony by a few minutes if there's an investigation that might change the podium result.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Red Bull won. And it would have been a Honda sweep if not for the contact between Hamilton and Albon. But that looked like a fair racing incident. And seemed like bigger contact than that between the Ferraris. Charles/Seb looked to barely touch, and for whatever reason caused much more damage than seems normal. Vettel made the pass but came over onto the racing line a fraction too soon. But again, I'd call it racing. The reality, IMO, is that Ferrari was on its back foot the entire week end. All in all, a very good race.

Not usually. Kubica's unsafe release was ruled on in what,... 5 minutes. The stewards could have been 1/2 way through investigating before the cool down lap was over if that was the protocol.

Can't say I agree with giving Lewis the penalty. Albon left the door wide open, Lewis took the invite, Albon cut across very late, hit Lewis, and put himself out.

Albon took the racing line into the apex thereby leaving the door open. Lewis did not take the racing line. Then the inevitable happened.

Likely they're waiting for the inevitable protest from Merc, and the review of the review.

Mercedes has lodged protests of the cars in P1 thru P6... Offense: Impeding the rightful winner.

wasn’t a cut-and-dry situation, but the fact is Hamilton finished in 3rd and Albon finished out of the points. Doesn’t fix everything (because Albon deserves to be on the podium) but there was some air of equalizing.

Also, it was similar to DR’s incident Hulk, so there was that. I’m certain Ham accepts the penalty.

"The Stewards reviewed video evidence and heard from the driver of car 5 (Sebastian Vettel), the driver of car 16 (Charles Leclerc) and the team representative .

The Stewards determined that both drivers had the opportunity avoid or mitigate the incident and therefore that neither driver is predominantly at fault. Therefore the Stewards take no further action.

Yes. Both acknowledge the risk (Albon- I didn’t know where he was but had to take the corner: Lewis- I put it on the line and took the gap, but knew it was risky). Albon got the worst of it coming from P2 to no points, so it almost had to be a penalty. Would have been the same if roles were reversed

Well done FIA. Despite the venom towards Vettel over here it was a minor racing incident with unusual levels of consequential damage given the contact. Neither driver was to blame on that one; just one of those things.
