According to this it's the other way around but it looks like the Ferrari will get a V8 and be out before the Maserati. Typical ... :(

Yes exactly. I think this car is a variation of the Roma and that it will be later than the Roma introduction -- to protect Ferrari sales of course

    EXACTLY!
Look at the Roma's lines---it IS the Alfieri with the odd Ferrari touches!

    Worth noting:
    Ferrari is owned by:
    Piero Ferrari‎: ‎(10.00%)
Exor N.V.‎: ‎(22.91%)---The Agnelli Family holding vehicle!
    Public‎: ‎(67.09%)

Maserati is wholly owned by FCA.
IMHO---Maserati is FINANCIALLY a more important entity for FCA as we go forward!

Furthermore Roma has a 3.9 litre TT V8...
The Maserati, whatever else it has, WILL have e-power!

The Roma, as configured, will thus have inferior performance!
    Let's wait and see!

sound clip of the maser 2020 sounds like a v8. certainly not electric. I don't think they will go hybrid either.

Yes. V8 NA sound. But almost positive it will have an E power option in there somewhere.

idk, fully electric needs be engineered to put batteries on the floor for low c of g. hybrid seems like Ferrari would want to keep that tech for themselves w sf90 and not share down market w maser. but never know w so many models coming so fast

The Alfieri prototype is quite small, the Roma obviously quite a bit larger, no commonality.

Although their appearance may suggest that, this is not supported by actual data:

Alfieri is 4,590 mm long with a 2,700 mm wheelbase.
Roma is 4,656 mm long with a 2,670 mm wheelbase.

FWIW, actually very similar sized designs.

The Alfieri is dead period, the new Sports Car to be shown next year will be. Mid-Engine carbon fiber with an ICE but with the capability to use Hybrid or EV propulsion.

Also remember that the Ferrari California was originally the Maserati replacement for the 4200.

    No disagreement there!
Simply pointing out that the new Roma's design has been very heavily influenced by the 2014 Alfieri prototype!

Thank you and duly noted, that is very surprising because I have seen the Alfieri (a one off) twice at the Geneva show and at the Chantilly concours and it is small and low like a BMW Z1/3/4...

The Ferrari version is fine but the original really was a pretty car and very Maserati looking. What shame it won't happen but then Maserati is just lucky to still survive at this point.
Given the very limited resources a re-purposed 4C, if that's really what it is, makes more sense. I don't think I can fit in a 4C?

I'm still waiting to learn about future engines now that Ferrari won't be involved. I'm not at all interested in electric and I really don't see how Maserati as small as it is can afford to pioneer that sort of development. They need older, wealthier and more experienced brothers with the resources and experience to help them out with that. Will that now be the French? We don't get French cars here so I'm unfamiliar with their level of expertise if any in that arena?

The current twin turbo V6 motors seem very nice to operate if not to look at. The 4200 coupe engines were spectacular to look at.
I recently test drove a Levante S and I have no idea what people have to complain about with that car except for the size. I could live with the size. It drove spectacularly on smooth and very bumpy roads.
The engine sounds much better as an observer of the car than as a driver ... :( I hear them all the time where I live. That's what I expect from a modern Maserati and so far they've done a spectacular job.
The big motor Mercedes, BMWs and Audis just don't sound as nice.

I'm in the market for something comfortable and utilitarian but that car and a lot of other cars are too nice for the beating they will get around here.
I've beat to death 2.5 cars here now and until we move no nice cars for us.

In a few years perhaps a low mileage Levante S will be possible.

    Just got this:

    Dear faithful Brand Ambassadors,

The new era of Maserati has begun.
After the "Save the Date" announced last week, the future is already on the streets of Modena.

The first mule for the development of the new Maserati engine has been driven out of the gates of Viale Ciro Menotti.

These are the experimental vehicles with a special livery that incorporates the teaser sent out ahead of the event scheduled for May 2020.

The mules are equipped with a new 100% Maserati engine.
This engine is characterized by highly innovative technological contents.

The steps towards the future will follow quickly.

The data acquired through the kilometres covered by the mules will be integrated with the experience gathered through the driving simulators present in the Maserati Innovation Lab.

This working methodology will then be used to fine-tune and develop the prototypes with final bodywork and mechanics.

In the coming months we will have a lot more news...

Thank you for being part of the Maserati family!

Very exciting. Maybe it's sharing the platform with the SF90?

Yes, this is the Maserati "4c".

Later, Alfieri (100% electric, Also Modena) , and by last, the new Granturismo (Turin factory).

Gentlemen---Let's stop it with this ridiculous 4C comparisons!
    4C was a CUTE, blown 4 pot, 50K, impractical plastic attrocity---which failed!

Yes it had an innovative chassis but even that was pretty useless as the car was too unstable and uncomfortable to be driven anywhere in real life.

Anyway, the Alfa story, at least for now, is over!

I am very excited with what is happening at Maserati for the first time in my adult life!
Let's look at the bright side for once!

    Regards.

Hope you are right, but rumors are it will be a sort of enhanced 4C with a V6 engine. a bit longer, but still impractical almost like a Lotus Exige (and a 4C): let's see.

    ciao

The 4C was built by Maserati and I am sure this new Maserati will be very similar only bigger and better. Don't be a Maserati snob. After 15 years of cars like the GranTurismo/Ghibi/Quattroporte I thought Maserati only built sporty trucks now.
