This is going to cause havoc for customers at the car rental counters in 2022. "I'll take the Mustang."

I agree with this. They should have called it the Edge-E ("Edgy") - it's a reasonably good-looking CUV exterior, but doesn't fit the Mustang lineage even if some details nod in that direction.

My only complaints about the aesthetics are confined to the interior... the awful-looking iPad thing stuck seemingly as an afterthought in the middle of the dashboard. With my Edge Titanium, I like that it has a reasonable-sized infotainment system, but also that I have real buttons down below to turn off seat heating/cooling or adjust climate control. With this new version, everything seems to be accessed exclusively through the oversized touchscreen, which isn't a very good solution. The interior also looks spartan, cold, and uninviting - the cozy feel of the Edge's interior has been lost.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

When it comes to in-screen infotainment, everyone is. And that isn't tongue-in-cheek: one of the most common pieces of customer feedback to auto makers is "needs a bigger touchscreen", particularly for higher-end trims.

That’s one reason the Ram pick-up is outselling the Chev. The Ram has a very large touchscreen, the Silverado, not so much.

Castriota...”Silicon Valley meets Route 66”. Similar to Apple meets Mr. Ed ?

Maybe they’ll offer a Boss-E version, the Nav will advise where you should be living.

    Thank you for that!
    I'm not convinced.
Ironic to think of JC's design for PF & Glickenhaus........and now he has hit the big time...Ford Styling maven.....this is not the step ahead of the P 4/5 that we might have hoped for.....(totally unrealistic I know....)
I hope we can get beyond the plague of these CUV's sooner rather than later.....:(

Jason is Global Brand Director of BEV. So his job is much different than it was when he was at Pininfarina. Sounds like he would be involved in the branding and not the design. Personally, I think the Mustang branding can work, and I could see it being a "long game" play. (Whether that is what Ford is thinking, I don't know)
As for the styling, it is somewhat generic, but what hurts it is the way that everything has the same amount of softness. It's soft overall, but the edge rads, where some amount of tension could have been achieved, seem like they are all the same size.

The Alfa Romeo Evo project called for Pforzheim students enrolled in the acclaimed design school's MATD program to design a future crossover coupe that retained elements of Alfa Romeo's design DNA and drew inspiration from the Italian carmaker's history.

From a Robb Report article -
Jason Castriota, then on the design team and now global brand director for Ford’s battery electric vehicles, fought to make the vehicle a Mustang and spearheaded the customer research that led to its key design elements. “Moving from a compliance play to Mustang-inspired design generated enormous enthusiasm and inspired the team,” Castriota remembers. “But the decision to make this vehicle a true Mustang was by far and away the most controversial and daunting task.” The Dearborn design team took about a year to develop and finalize the new design, which, despite its size and footprint, looks every bit the American icon it was meant to emulate.
