Check if there is some oil in the engine also. It might explain why it doesn't leak...

Amazingly it does have oil.....have decided to import a new wiring loom for the car, more of peace of mind than anything else. Someone decided to cut through the wiring that runs to the back lights....

A new wiring loom on an 40-year old italian car of the seventies might indeed be wise, and help the peace of mind...

One of the first issues arose when the seats had to removed, all the bolts were stripped so proved to be a bit of challenge to get them out. I would concur with the poster who thought it looked like the genuine interior. As with most of what we have found so far, I cannot fathom why someone would just let the car sit outside.

What are the thoughts on the "wing" over the engine lid? That came with the car but wasn't fitted and I actually prefer the cleaner lines without the wing fitted.

The rear aerofoil, or wing, or "aletone", or aileron over the engine hood didn't came before well into the "two-valve injected cars" production; the carbed cars were not supposed to have one as OEM.
That being said, 34389 is a very late production carbed car, so might perhaps be in the time bracket corresponding to the first "aileron" on the "2 valve injected" production , but I doubt it.
If the engine hood butresses themselves does not have the holes drilled for the aileron, by all means I would leave it without one.

So today the engine came out and predictably its far from clean...the strip down is going to be interesting because its believed the mileage on the car is genuine. First thing to go will be the infamous sodium valves which at 38 years old are in my view are a liability. Really not worth re using them and carrying that risk.

The pictures don't look great but then I remember the Daytona and what that engine looked like before it was restored...

This was the last project we did...more complex from a parts point of view and I am (hoping) the V8 engine parts are bit kinder to the wallet.

So far the chassis seems to be in decent condition, no serious rust.

What a great find. Now the gap between my fourth last #34379 and Alberto's second to last is filled.
    What is the engine number?

Seems to be not unusual. My car left the factory on 29th October 80 and the first owner in France took delivery on 21st May 81.

My car has the holes..... welded shut.

Wow, I was wondering who had the car before and the car after! The engine number is 02101722.

Would love to see some pictures of your car?

Posted yesterday. The latest shot of my car. Klick:

Let's see pics of sports cars filling up at the gas station!

Up till now I had the highest drysump carb engine no. known on FChat -01719-, since Alberto's second to last car failed the initial tests and got an earlier engine at the factory.
Now your engine no. is the highest known number.

P.S.: I wonder why Alberto hasn' chimed in yet.

Seems, that the first rounds pace slowed down a bit.
I kind of feel, like I have gotten a delicious hors d'oeuvre. Now hungry for the main menu :)

Hi sorry for the lack of updates, I did manage to go see the car last week. its nearly completely stripped and the new is mostly good. There is quite a lot we are going to re use, especially in the interior where the carpets are fundamentally quite decent, as is the centre console. For the seats we are get hides from Lupi (expensive but very nice).

The engine is out of the car and there are no serious visual indications of trouble. The gearbox oil was clear which was a nice surprise, the engine coolant was green and there was no indication of head gasket issues. Though there was a fair amount of corrosion around the thermostat area.

My Italian lessons are going well looking at various part sites..
