Me think that Volkswagen tries to be holier than God after being caught in a massive scandal regarding diesel engines.
For years, they have installed software on cars to cheat the emission test, and they were caught.
Now, their salvation is jumping on the ecologists' bandwaggon to redeem themselves, and promote electric cars.

For me, nothing. A benefit, however.......more time available for pocket billiards. :)

So...the kids who got caught with their pants down now want to play fair? VW should go do something else for a business. The car business does not seem to be their forte anymore. Electric is the future, but ceasing ICE racing is like closing the barn door after the horses get out. You weren't that good to begin with. I wll stick with the Pinto. At least it passed the emissions test for real.

    :D

There are definitely negatives and positives for electric racing. I am neutral on the subject. I think that’s a well grounded opinion!

I was hoping I would get a charge out of the comments on the topic.

pt - 'Got me t'inkin'..... Back in the '60s I was modifying Mabuchi 16D and 26D 1/24 scale slot car motors for racing (cutting off the windings and rewinding and epoxying with heavier guage wire, advancing the commutator, swapping the brushes with silver ones, balancing by rolling on 2 vertical razor blades and round filing the low side, shimming the magnets, etc.) 'Did it 'til I couldn't compete with the manufacturers, one of which (Mura Motors) ended up "sponsoring" my racing effort.
(There's a raceway just off the LIE I still visit when visiting my mother on L.I. : https://portjeffraceway.com The King track is similar to one of my last "home" tracks in '69; 'site's old, store 'still there)

Does that mean I can jump in on the ground floor of hotrodding vanilla electrics for the street??? :D

Amongst the hippies, techie and nerd society, electric car racing will be popular I think.

Hey maybe we can have robots drive the car or computers control it, then we won't even need the driver. Could be interesting...

The computers must be secretly trying to takeover, hmm, I watched the matrix recently...:rolleyes:

So you have taken the red pill? Or have you taken the blue pill? Will you see how deep the rabbit hole goes or will you wake up in your bed and believe what ever you want? :p

Yes, I watched a highlight, more racing officials, and about 3 spectators.

I tried watching an event (cannot bring myself to calling it racing) and ended up listing to music instead. If not for the announcers trying to infuse excitement, the wrrrrring sounds don't interfere with one's musical enjoyment.

So you opted for the electrifying sounds of AC/DC instead ? Or did you plug in to the Five Man Electrical Band ? :p

we invented the automobile long ago but still have horse racing over a century later. Likewise, I believe we will always have traditional gas powered car racing. Electric cars will have their own series which will grow but it is not the end of traditional car racing.

I pray you are correct, but I'm afraid if electric takes hold a movement (Government Regulations) to remove internal combustion engines use will take hold.

OK with me,... as long as they use no fossil fuel getting the teams to the races as well. And while we're at it,... electric grills only in the hospitality suites... can't use that nasty propane you know.

And please make sure every sponsor is "green". No "brown" sponsorship allowed.

Finally,... of course there can be no parking at the track for internal combustion autos... EV's and bicycles only.

Come to think of it,... I'm not sure why we don't just skip this Formula E step and move directly to virtual racing.

There is NO QUESTION there will only be electric racing in the future,
but that future is 40-50 years or so down the road.
    Same exact thing with football.

It takes an entire culture, generation to be born and raised with it, but that
generation has not been born yet, but it will be in the next 5, 10 years at most.

I don't like it anymore than you do, but, depending on your age your parents
grew up on Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Nat King Cole, and there are a lot
of kids today that cannot name any of the Beatles or the lead singer of the
Rolling Stones... so, it will happen.
Ask a 10 yr old who Wilt Chamberlain, Muhammad Ali or Babe Ruth is, and you
    get an empty stare...

It will be both - virtual racing of electric cars.
That too will happen.... eventually, just like how they fly drones.
