I am going to inspect/replace the bushes on my 348 steering rack. Has anyone found a suitable replacement bushes from another car/steering rack? I have identified the following possible replacement bushes: MERCEDES Image Unavailable, Please Login TRW JBU998 (the hole appears too large but a steel "compensation" bush could be inserted) Image Unavailable, Please Login SAAB 9-5 (cut in two halves) Image Unavailable, Please Login
None of those look correct. I fond a fiat one on a site I believe would have worked but I lost all my bookmarks in an incident. I think I have one in Delrin somewhere that I made that I did not use if you want it shown below in black. You can see my bushing completely disintegrated. When you replace it with the tie rod ends and control arm bushes the cars is amazing.
I think Miro is talking about the 4 mounting bushes to the bulkhead not the internal item which breaks up.
Ahh got it that makes sense with his pics. Great question about replacements... Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I bought a bent rack for engineering exploration. It has good bushings that i'm saving for another day. I have to get in there and re-examine solutions for the rank end bushing. sjd
It would be great if you could take measurements of a mounting bush (biggest diameter, smaller diameter and length) and post here.
I redid my rack in the spring the bushings are infact cone shaped. Worst comes to worse I can machine them from Delrin. I'd check bushing used on fiats too they used very similar TRW racks. Here is a picture of them when I was popping them out, (second picture) they are a taper fit. A steel washer sits int the recess hole where the press plunger is, I was pushing out the sleeve that goes through the set. Real similar to the Integra the 348 ones looked exactly those these shown directly below (not sure about dimensions) - Energy Suspension 16.10103G. I bet there is match out there somewhere... Image Unavailable, Please Login Some Toyota ones tapered also. I bet existing taper busing's can be trimmed too... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I whipped this up from memory the bushings definitely look like this. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Whiteline or Energy Suspension should be able to easily supply the mount bushings. Just need to get some dimensions and give them a call.
Very interesting, the Toyota bushes (which Toyota and what they are for?). They look very similar to the genuine 348 ones: Image Unavailable, Please Login
A member here informed that the new steering rack he bought from a Ferrari parts supplier was TRW p/n 37502289 (the original rack was TRW 37502244). I just found a company on the internet selling a used TRW 37502289 as a part for 1996 Fiat Bravo (https://www.proxyparts.com/car-parts-stock/information/part-number/37502289/part/power-steering-box/partid/1784401/). however, I could not find anyone selling mounting bushes for Fiat Bravo steering rack.
Several places that even sell the inner bush but never found the rack mount bushes. https://www.midwest-bayless.com/p-15800-4330731-alum-steering-rack-bushing-internal-aluminum-fiat-x19-128-lancia-scorpion-new.aspx http://www.fiatplus.com/STEERING-BOX-RACK-and-MOUNTING/ I have 1 brand new un-used bushing I can take detailed measurements when I get back next weekend, unused will work much better for domentions as used ones get compresses etc.
My rack was a TRW 37502289 rack, as outlined in: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/the-steering-rack-an-engineering-exploration.600134/ the bushings look like: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think the later boxes used a different bushing. Ricambi does not show a part number for those. Here is Ricabmi picture for 89-92. Image Unavailable, Please Login Here is Ferrari Part 135139 I bought from Ferrari. When I get home I'll post detailed pics and dimensions. A picture I have on my phone below sorry it sucks I'll get better ones next weekend when i return from travel. REAL similar to the Toyota one. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I wonder if the sway bar bushings fit? They were the same shape, see mine below from when I replaced all the bushings.
Reached out to them earlier this year; they don’t have any solutions for that particular bushing. Didn’t discuss the mount bushings with them though.
Very interested to see which direction this thread goes but I will tell you I replaced my bushes in my old 328 a few years ago. They look identical to the 348 ones just a different color and a whole lot cheaper than $106 a piece! Image Unavailable, Please Login
According to "awitalian" website (https://www.awitalian.com/Ferrari_108244_Sway_Bar_Link_Bushing_rear_108244.html), these are sway bar bushes. Anyhow, if the size is close, they can be used for the steering rack. There is probably more force on the sway bar links then on the steering rack so these bushes should do fine. I actually have 4 new bushes. Awitalin is down road from me. I can go compare the bushes in person in a few weeks if you want. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
