  2. Interesting. From an Italian publication no less.

" ‘Elkann is a big fan of Hamilton, so too is Ferrari vice president, Piero Ferrari, who is in Abu Dhabi this weekend.
‘This is a courtship that has lasted for years. Even from the times of Luca di Montezemolo and Stefano Domenicali, the interest in the English champion has been constant and is still very strong today.’ "

So much for all that jive on here by supposed "tifosi" that Ferrari/Hamilton have had no interest.

More "faked" (out? ;)) "imaginations".

    :)

To be honest, I have plenty of reservations about that eventual move.
I don't think that the Scuderia is a better place than the present Mercedes-AMG F1 team. I'm sure Hamilton knows that.
But maybe Hamilton knows more about the future of the Mercedes team, following the rumours that have been going on. Are they closing down after 2021?
Or maybe Hamilton is putting pressure to obtain more from Mercedes for his next contract with them?

Or maybe they're just looking to drive up his price, destabilize Mercedes, and/or send a message to Vettel.

So this debunks the notion that Ferrari doesn't want Ham as some people stated, Ferrari thinks winning is everything, who would have thought!? Lol

It would be a bad move, IMO. He´d ask for an insane amount of cash and he´s not got so many years left.

But it´s a good way to make Mercedes spend more money and put a fire under Vettel´s ass.

ktu - Loosing? Who's letting go of (loosing) what? Do you mean losing (not winning)?

Anyone else wonder if this is a sign that Mercedes is leaving F1 at then end of 2020? Toto does not seemed troubled which is a suspicious unless it does not matter.

i would be very conflicted if this comes to pass.
somewhat like when alonso was there...

and i also think it would be detrimental to the rise of LeClerc, who i am presently very happy with.

    You spelled "deceit" wrong.

In a car that is a contender in 2021, Leclerc, who is a homegrown product, is more than competent enough to take it. Ferrari does not need Hamilton, who will be at the end of his career.

I don't think Hamilton would make a difference.
The Scuderia is too dysfunctional and far from being the ideal team.

I had the same thought: the Mercedes team could be on the way to fold before long.
The contract to supply PU to McLaren from 2021, and Hamilton talking to Ferrari could indicate that.

I'm not sure he'll leave Mercedes while he's still winning titles with them and Ferrari is still struggling to avoid unforced errors.

I think this is all about:
    • Hamilton maximizing his own contract.
    • Ferrari maximizing the amount Mercedes has to pay out to keep Hamilton.
    • Ferrari putting pressure on the drivers it will eventually retain to accept less.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

This years-long courtship might help to explain why Lewis has been able to purchase a LaF Coupe and LaF Aperta, both at MSRP (window).

Cutting 10,000 jobs and still being a constructor in F1 may not make sense. What real value do they get out of F1 when they are heading to a major focus on EV? Where there is smoke, there is often fire. Only reason Hamilton would entertain leaving is if they are not staying.

It would be a very daring and dangerous move...

But If Lewis could go there...outrace Charles and win races a championship, it would certainly send him into another stratosphere of achievement.
It don't think it would wise to ever consider such move unless he could arrange for a small core of people to go with him (thinking of a Peter Bonington etc) and look out for his interests in an uncertain and potentially volatile, factionary political landscape.
