Not a good idea to try to save money by using the short pallett only, rather than the long one, so that there‘s no overhang front and rear. I will never understand when people spend a million bucks or more for a car but then are shy with a few thousand for proper and safe transportation. Oh well. Marcel Massini
The car is now safely in the hands of the local dealer. Getting ready for its "Red Book" Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

i read that sale result differently..... that car should have sold at 1.3 mil, or maybe a little less in today's environment. the fact that it was bid there is a good thing. the fact that it was not let go may be prescient of better things to come.
Was it bid to that level though or was the auctioneer simply bouncing it against the back wall to try to get it up closer to the reserve?
Agreed on all. Auctions are subject to their venue, promotion, participation & content, all of which affect certain cars, this one particularly.
Many of those cars simply did not find their buyers. Confining the auction to a racetrack in Abu Dhabi did not help.
if $1.3m was a real bid they should have snapped the bidders hand off!!!!! The reality as discussed on multiple other forums, away from this site, the auction was a shambles, filled with cars that were not even for sale, those that were with unrealistic estimates or reserve price - why was it so high profile, who were they bending over too, who were they trying to please??? - come on guys seriously, everyone one is thinking it but no one says it.... an auction full of candelair bids up to the last minute to try and get a sale - hook a sucker - the world has moved on....bring a trailer is making more sales in their premium section than these guys! all for a miniscule fraction of the cost! Every car in that auction (other than the one off's and prototypes) is available at multiple dealers and agents at less money - fact. Joe Sackey can you offer me a comparable F40 right now for $1.3M?
may I add, venue, tax, vat, import - export duty etc etc - the uncertainty of a hiden bill arriving on your door did not help - from what i gather no one including the auction house was clear to the finite detail, they washed their hands and therefore their responsibility, it was buyer beware. but the reality is - the money the seller receives ex all the costs, premium, duty etc,,,, is the price where the car sells not the auction hammer price - ie that is the market. Car sells for $1M - seller receives $800k - that is the market, You meet the same guy a month earlier at cars and coffee, $800k or less buys the car in a private transaction. People with money and the appetite for this commodity need to be more hands on.
IMO the auction location itself has deterred many potential customers. As already mentioned above, there were often no clear circumstances or the facts of the vehicle documents disclosed. Of course, this is a deterrent to customers. Who wants to buy something without knowing what to expect in the end?

Since we're discussing a F40 auction, what's the opinion on Worldwide Auctioneers' recent F40 in Riyadh? It was a '92 example that apparently reached a high bid of $1.45 million; don't know what the estimate range was. Because it's interesting reading how the ball was dropped by RM. It looked like a complete success compared to WA's event where Hammer Price only showed 5 cars hitting sold.
Correct. Taken today at Niki Hasler AG, official Ferrari dealer in Basel, Switzerland. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
