According to myths, Ferrari switched from cheap Russian steel which had a half-life of days when it came to rust to galvanized steel in what year? 1985? 1987? When?

'84..(maybe a year earlier??).….although it does not meet the Tech Specs of ""Galvanized", which is hot dipped in liquid zinc dipping tanks...

It's more loosely termed "pre gal" or "electroplated" as it's a cold process zinc plating.
Similar to what you see in air conditioning ducts, that look shiny, for a time..

The Italians considered rust to be a good adhesive surface, for paint.
In a bizarre way they are correct, in that it's very hard to get good paint adhesion, on galvanized steel.

Electroplate kind of splits the difference, and if you KNOW you are painting AC duct you order a finish called Paint Grip, which is a primer grey literally.

The 288GTO press kit was the first to mention the "Zincrox" process.

Don't overthink it, as it's a thin coating and any fastener, contact to dissimilar metals, or gravel damage exposes the raw steel below.

But God love 'em they were TRYING!

Their patented process was actually licensed to Ford for a while. Not sure what they did with it.

Thank. Just daydreaming about buying a Mondi and don't want to deal with rust no more.

Get a later Mondial QV and no worries. The QV engine was introduced on the Mondial before the 308 because the Mondial was considered underpowered by owners.
