Really hoping someone can help ,just bought a Ferrari Testarossa 1991 right hand drive
On driving back 140 miles I let the fuel run a little low I filled the car up and it started bellowing out thick black smoke no idea why
The car runs fine and ticks over fine
And it didn’t smoke at all for the first 100 miles
Smoke is mainly from the left side tail pipe
    Any help would be great

Fuel stations make mistakes too it sounds like this started after refuelling I would drain some fuel into a glass jar let it settle and take a very close look at it

Any CEL light? Black smoke on one side assuming the fuel is not contaminated could be extremely rich running or burning massive amounts of oil on that side - make sure engine oil is full

I'd siphon all the fuel out and start with a new tank of fuel.

check first if a cold start valve is leaking, spark plugs are still dry, plunger fuel distributor is leaking, your engine is not sucking brake fluid via vacuum line, then have to start looking for leaks in vacuum sistem,....testing quantity fuel pump delivery, quantity of fuel coming out injectors...take your time !

Hello John, congrats on the purchase of your car. Repost your question in the Boxer/TR/M section as you will get more of a response over there. I would suggest you introduce yourself by filling out your profile and make sure in your post you identify your engine family. Do you have any documentation for your car? Work shop manual? Electrical diagrams? If not shoot me a PM and I will send you a link to download some info. A word of advise! STOP turning that mixture screw ;) You really need to find out why that bank is not functioning. If it ran well for the first 100 miles you drove it I wouldn't suspect the mixture screw would be the issue. As Guido alluded to, you need to test what the fuel delivery from the pump and from the injectors. The workshop manual clearly describes the tests to do this.

That really should be set up with a CO meter make sure its on the rich side and not on the lean side it could cost you a piston. At least look at how the plugs are burning
