Yesterday cruising at low speeds when suddenly a got the two following messages:

    1) Warning. Limited performance of the engine. Restart engine.

    2) Engine control system failure. Go to dealer.

I tried to restart the engine and got the same. Today, the same. Tomorrow will talk with dealer. My car is an 11 Italia with 7700 miles.

    Any idea of this error?.

    Thank you guys.

Restarting is the only way to get rid of such error messages. If they still persist, just take to dealer, no other option.

system control failure is usually something called a secondary smog valve malfunction, easy fix.

My dealer said its from not revving the motor high enough on a regular basis, like the Italian tune up!

Could be as I don't redline my car too much. Let's see what the dealer says.

Never redline in Town when the kids are going to School, or the elderly are doing shopping , but when the out of town limits are past "ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE" even the dog in the foot well puts her head under her Blanket. No errors so far :):)

so maybe 3 years later you can finally tell us "what the dealer said" and update the post you made and got replies from members on then never cared to tell us solution.

Hi friend tatoweb, please introduce yourself first a little: what is your name, what car are you talking about and where are you ?

It may help if we know wheter you live in U.K., Brazil or China …. :)

No need to go to a dealer yet imo IF you are talking about a 458.

Normally, do a hard reset: disconnect the battery , i.a.w. disconnect the ground/minus of the battery.

Do read the 458 manual HOW to proceed with that.

Read all about it in my thread YOLO …[\url]

In many cases, the warning message will clear by itself after away or two. Also verify your battery is in good condition

How old is your battery? A lot of times a marginal battery will cause this.

Disconnecting the battery performs a soft reset, not a hard one.
To do the latter, it has to be accomplished with the Ferrari computer (Some dealers don’t even know it exists) and then wait until cooling fans are activated. With this method cars forgets everything including your way of driving, the gas you use etc, the average temperatures you go through..... not just clear the dash errors.

Hard reset is a very healthy procedure to do from time to time and specially when changing something: sparks, exhaust, etc. After a few heating cycles car feels like new again.

My god people buy a $25 OBD reader, when you get a message like this, plug it in..and read the code, then google it! Engine control system failure simply means your check engine light is on..could be a million different things!
