BOOMER
FINALLY! We are finally in our flat and have a proper kitchen. Ania went and surprised me with beef and veggies from the local market...err...so much for my plan of our first meal being the amazing beef I had lined up from a high-end dry-age butcher. But, it was sweet of her. So she picked up a completely non-marbled angus strip for me and the tiniest little filet you ever saw for herself, along with some brussels sprouts and mushrooms. I can't go further without thanking Dustman and IT Guy and FCMD for the help with how to cook steaks in a cast iron pan. The beef came out surprisingly well, stayed pink despite being very thin cuts and was very tender (which I wasn't expecting). The flat smells of beef and butter now after dinner Thanks again for the help and the inspiration! A few dinners out this week before we finally cooked tonight (post above): First is a quick meal at the pub downstairs of some sort of chicken spread on toast and some hummus. Guinness with that of course. Image Unavailable, Please Login Next is a nearby fast-casual Lebanese place that was fantastic. Got a mezze plate and some falafel and flat bread. Also took some of their spicy herbed potatoes home and had for breakfast with fried eggs on top (posted in that thread). Image Unavailable, Please Login Lastly is some roasted duck at a local Chinese place. Was happy to see the place have every table filled with Asians and they took us without too much weight. Not Americanized at all, very solid overall. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's awesome, so glad for you guys. I'd go wacky if I had to eat out for so long. I gotta try that butter basting deal. Must be great to have your kitchen back...T
Rice and black beans with recaito, which is a cilantro cooking base. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login I'm really digging the uncooked tortillas that Kroger just started carrying. Image Unavailable, Please Login Keep in fridge. Pop them on a super hot comal. My IR thermometer read 500+ F. Cover. 45 seconds at most per side. A thin spatula to flip them; I use the MIL old school Batter Better. I also like to lube the comal with bacon fat or butter. Hot, tasty tortillas as close as fresh as you can get without having a Mexican grandma! I just mix it in one the rice is cooked and beans to temp. All the hard work is done! My buddy is Puerto Rican and he'd have an aneurysm if he knew I was cheating (he makes his own from scratch), but the flavor of Goya is good enough for me. Ditto for Goya sofrito. One thing though, unlike a lot of prepared condiments, it's not very salty, so you may need to adjust on that front...T
Had our first true “London” day (about time after moving her over 2 months ago). Woke and went to the Notting Hill farmers market and picked up several thing; including some pesto and bocconcini. Added a salad and some focaccia we picked up at the market to make a great dinner... Image Unavailable, Please Login

Technically “arros a banda” as it is known locally. Post prandial sugar was up, 3 hr later was normal. So robbing Peter to pay Paul worked.... Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Enough with the chops for a few days and with all the steak talk... local butcher for end-cut porterhouses, 1.5” thick cut with asparagus. Nothing but ground black pepper and a smoking hot BGE (and a bourbon).
