The early 308s had the under body of the front valence all the way beneath the battery.
With an oval cut out to reach a frame mounted tow point, and a tube to vent the battery, back when they were built with one.

I rusted out a three piece steel one, and the glass ones were solid, in the area open on a 328

But Rifledriver is putting forth a good point, the front radiator air flow is greatly improved to dump it below the car.
This is a change from our early cars, which had an air deflector below the engine, seeking cool air to pump UP thru the rear hatch!

Makes sense. At the moment mine goes all out through the louvres above the spare wheel. In high humidity when the wind shield is cold, when the fans start the warm air causes the glass to very quickly steam up on the outside. Sending some air down through the bottom should reduce this issue.
And there was me thinking this was a design issue!!

Pictures taken from Classiche redbook: no red lines, means "detail in original Factory conditions".

Rifledriver (Brian Crall) does know what he is saying.

Brian Crall (Rifledriver) is absolutely correct. Disregard the other comments.
