Not trying to confuse things, just covering all possibilities, but might there have been a chance it did not sell from that particular advert, but sold from a later date advert?

So what you’re saying this was your personal battle between Ford vs. Ferrari and apparently Ford won. :D

That hurts! The last ad ran 8/30 so the car sold the first week of September. The Formula Ford may have gone first. Kind of a tie, but the Ferrari definitely won the heart.

I suppose the ad at least is contemporaneous record of the interior colour at the time of the ad.
Quite amazing it can be found!

Not just any Cal Spyder but one with a hardtop! Even the NART 275 GTB convertible didn't get a hardtop option.

twr944, great detective work. now, if seller still has the same insurance agent or carrier maybe they can dig up the serial number.

I called the USAA which insured the car and is still my agent and got someone who was a car guy. He even did some research to see if there were any records that could be found covering that time period. When they went digital all the old records were destroyed.

Wonderful story...hopefully looking forward to it's discovery. Had a somewhat similar story with a 59' Fiat-Abarth 750 Zagato, having discovered them at Elkhart Lake in 1960/61, but never pursued trying to find it. I rebuilt the engine, to the chagrin of my roommates, in the bathtub and the outside stairs to our apartment. Still dream about it some 50+ years later. (gnashes teeth)

It's amazing how vivid memories of a few old cars (and girlfriends) can remain in your mind fifty years later while pretty much everything else is forgotten.

Could have had the Cal Spyder for $3975 or a GTE for an additional $325...

I would like to correct this post in order to avoid confusion.

In 1969 I don't know if I would have heard of metallic paint. It certainly wasn't common. The paint could have been metallic but I just didn't know it. I certainly wouldn't have looked at it closely too see if it was metallic. I've learned from this thread that my 50 year old memories and reality are often different.

The muffler was replaced in November of 1969, probably between the 15th and 20th. I know this now because the sale ad showed that the car was sold in September of 1970.

My Father is the owner of vin #08029. 1965 Marrone, 2cam, 6carb Alloy from Italy. He has owned it for 25+ years. Could this possibly be the one?

It could very well be. Marcel Massini posted about 08029 early in this thread. Do you have pictures to post here including of the interior and engine?

The car is in the process of being restored/finished. I can definitely update photos once it is done. My Father Had it painted red. I know prior to being red it was silver with black interior and then of course it’s original Marrone.
He’s still deciding what color combination to go with this time.

I see. Colour is a personal thing but the original Marrone is beautiful.

Perhaps there is something in the paperwork to link Mr Gaggarin to the car?

They could well have been replaced, but what colour are the carpets in the car?

The carpets are a bluish gray. I believe the original Marrone had a tan interior. I know the vehicle has changed ownership about 8x. He does have some of the history of the vehicle but the first 2 owners are unknown.
