Anyone had the recall done in the dealer? Is it easy to replace? its the passenger side airbag recall.
I had it done without issue by my service dept, didn't take more than a couple hours is my guess. When I called in ahead to schedule for the replacement, they had mentioned the airbags were on backorder which was slightly concerning for me given the noted issues, but thankfully they had some in stock when I brought my car in. I guess they ordered some for other owners affected by the recall and they had already sold their car by the time the time the airbags came in
It is a fairly easy procedure. However, there is a problem that I keep seeing on some of the cars that have had them done. On some of them, I had noticed that there are sometimes very small deformities in the leather that show at some angles, directly above where the push pin mounting clip for the dash pad is located (If you look at a parts breakdown, you may be able to see the location of these). This deformity is actually caused by the pin mount, on the underside of the air bag dash cover, breaking. I assume that the mount will break if the tech is not careful, and manhandles the dash pad when removing it. I'm not sure if there is a technique that they can use in order to minimize the risk, or if it's just bad luck for some.
Can’t seem to get one from the two local dealers. So I wait... I keep getting letters from Ferrari and some gov agency telling not to drive the car.
Ted, only the oem dealers are fit to exchange them. No other (non oem) shops will get the new airbag from the factory. If you ever want to resell the 458 and did not fit the new airbag, you have a problem …. So, do not wait. Make photo's of how the dash was before and show them to the dealer before fitting … So he is aware of your concern …. and will be damn secure … Let us know ...
I brought mine for service this month, and asked for the recall once again, after waiting since March, service advisor said they have it for me. It was finally done.
