I’ve been pondering one of these for a while now.
Any thoughts on holding value etc etc?

    thx

    Thanks Chris.

As I said in my 964 thread recently, they are in my opinion the best way to own a 964 in the right spec: sans power-steering, with factory M030 sport suspension, and with a much more sporty interior than the average USA-delivered 911 of the era, not to mention the history that comes with the RS badge.

They dipped with the rest of the air-cooled market 1-2 years ago, but they are very stable now with some very strong sales recently on Bring a Trailer in particular.

If you can swing it, 964RS. There are 2 for sale in the US and they are old enough to import w/o the hassle.

    I agree.

RS America is a cool car but a bit of a half-measure. now that 964 RS are eligible for import, that's a much better way to go.

I will never really understand the comparisons to the European Carrera RS - which occupy a completely different price bracket and typically sell for 2.5x the price of an equivalent RS America.

At that point, you might as well say things like "why buy a 964 Turbo when you could have the real thing and buy a 959," and, "why buy a Cayman when you could have a real mid-engined Porsche and buy a Carrera GT."

The idea that the RSA is a "half measure" made sense when it was new in 1993, even though it was priced accordingly then, too, and actually cost less than the standard USA C2. Porsche marketed the car as being an affordable options package for track day drivers and club racers, which is exactly what it was for those who didn't want to spend extra money for a 911 with leather and premium non-performance related features.

But, regardless, at today's prices the RSA is accurately represented as what it is: a very cool and special version of the regular USA 964 C2 with desirable upgrades & deletions versus those cars.

Great cars. Very good drivers cars. Value have been stable. Will never go down. Good low mileage examples are hard to find.
