Quite the legend . . . https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/20/us/nascar-legend-junior-johnson-dies/index.html
RIP. A real NASCAR legend. As an aside, one of the cars I want to buy is a Hemi Charger 500 that belonged to my father between Vietnam tours, but the guy who originally ordered it was Junior Johnson and my dad still has the paperwork showing that.
A very good read as we pay respects to an uniquely American original https://classic.esquire.com/article/1965/3/1/junior-johnson
I had the pleasure to meet him one time. A couple friends and I were introduced by a mutual friend. He could not have been a nicer guy. Had breakfast with him and his old timer buddies in his old NASCAR shop. He must’ve been told I worked in the Racing business in Indianapolis; because he pulled me aside and spent a few minutes telling me about the one time he attempted to run the Indy 500. That was a fun day I never expected to happen.
