I'm familiar with the progression in the 360/430 world but what versions were used on 612 . 1. Could anyone layout the different variants of the F1 system used. ? 2. Can you tell which version a car has from the VIN ? 3. If you had an early 612 does flashing the TCU bring the same benefits as it does for 360's ?
Not 100% sure, but I think there are two versions. The standard version in the 612, and the F1 super fast (SF) version that came on the Sessanta and OTO cars. The SF had the mannetino and is similar to the 599 box. I also think the SF box on the 612 has 599 innards in a 612 case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Perhaps my question leans more towards the TCU software versions for the early cars. In the 360 world there were 4 versions of TCU software, the 1st with auto PIS, being consider the worst. So for the 612 do the early cars have auto-pis, or do you get it set using a SD ?
F1-A: Standard 612 : 180ms up to VIN ~1579XX ( Nov 2007 ) HGTS / HGTC 612 160ms up to VIN: ~1579XX ( 2006 - Nov 2007 ) All pre-OTO 08 cars 125ms from VIN ~1579XX up to ~1599XX( Nov 2007 - March 2008 ) FI-S: 612 Sessenta 100ms from VIN 1570XX ( Sept 2007- ) 612 OTO 100ms from VIN ~1600XX ( March / April 2008 - )
These are the minimum shift speed times that occur only when maximum performance is demanded. There’s more to it than that though, with drivability and smoothness improves over the versions too.
Somewhere in 2006 the normal 612 came with the HGTS / HGTC software. The driver could select the faster shifting program with the F1-S button next to the selector handle. The anti-skid button was replaced for this.
The F1-S button actually allowed you to select Sport for shifting and Normal/Comfort for suspension settings on mid-production 612s (before the interim 612s). Sport for both shifting and suspension could be selected using the Sport button on the steering wheel. But that is what you probably meant.
so in regard to the F1-A have people been doing TCU upgrades for the early cars to the later TCUs (HGTC or OTO) ?
Some upgrades are not possible because of incompatibility. Early 612s were Motronic 7.1.1 and then they migrated to 7.3.2. Later 612s also had changes that resulted in HGT2 replacing HGTS (HGTC used the same TCU). Would need to check with the dealer to make sure the TCU was compatible with whatever you have. The OTO and Sessanta both had Superfast 1, which likely needs the 599 clutch to operate correctly, so probably not compatible with earlier 612s with single plate clutches.
SD3 or equivalent is needed for either auto or manual setting of PIS. SD2 may work on some early 612s. One of our pros can chime in.
Affirmative. Real early ones did not have pneumatic valves in the exhaust, but other than that fully equipped.
The question was more drawn from the 360 experience. gen1 TCU of 360's = the PIS is automatically set by the TCU gen 2,3 & 4 = manually set using a SD. So are 612's similar ?
Ros- On early 360s, an SD2 can initiate an auto PIS set. On later models, you can either use the auto mode or set PIS manually. The 612 software is like late 360's or the 575's. Optimum according to the pros is setting minimum PIS manually that does not move the output shaft. You can do that on a 612.
